Dorm Parent

Westover School is seeking applicants for a part-time position as a dorm parent, which may include fulfilling other duties in coaching or community service.

Dorm parents live in the dorm with students and are committed to providing the care, support, and supervision that create a living environment conducive to the social, personal, and intellectual development of young women. Dorm parents are on duty three nights each week and every other weekend. They host a dinner table once or twice a week, and they help to proctor study hall during the spring trimester.

This position may be combined with other current part-time openings to create a three-quarter time or full-time position, depending on the experience and interests of the applicant.

Part Time Drawing and Painting Teacher

Westover School is looking for a candidate to teach upper-level Drawing and Painting courses, as well as advise the AP in Drawing course. This is a part-time drawing and painting teacher position, beginning late August 2017.

The preferred candidate will teach one class per trimester: preferably two courses of drawing (Drawing II in fall term and Drawing III in winter term), and one course of painting (acrylics, oil or watercolor) in spring term. The candidate will also mentor and teach a select, small group of upper level art students during the course of the year, helping them prepare their AP Studio Art portfolios. The candidate must be available to teach in the afternoons and on Saturday mornings. Additional responsibilities include departmental meetings twice per month, monthly full faculty meetings, and preparation of student artwork for presentation on campus and in Hartford, CT. Preferred candidates will have prior teaching experience, especially in a high school setting.

Full Time Math Teacher

Westover School is seeking a passionate and collaborative full-time math teacher with a start date of August 2017. The ideal candidate must have the ability to teach all levels of mathematics classes offered at Westover, ranging from introductory algebra to Advanced Placement calculus classes. Preferred candidates will be educators with previous experience in a high school classroom, preferably in a boarding school environment, and possess experience using technology in the classroom. Candidates with coaching experience are preferred.

Director of Enrollment Management

The Position

Westover School, a century old girls’ boarding school, is seeking to hire a Director of Enrollment Management who will begin working as of July 1st, 2017. The Director of Enrollment Management is a senior member of the Westover School administration, reporting directly to the Head of School. The Director of Enrollment Management will be responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the admissions office, with four admissions officers, including the Director of Financial Aid. The Director will be responsible for working with the entire Westover community to aid in the admissions and retention process.

As a member of the senior leadership team, specific responsibilities include:

●Oversee the program of admissions of new students to the school, as well as retention of existing, qualified students

●Oversee the admission office, including the creation and management of a departmental budget, oversight of a staff of four and general management of the day-to-day operations of the department

●Advise and consult with the Head of School on all aspects of admissions

●Develop new programs and initiatives to attract and retain qualified students

●Organize and administer financial aid in collaboration with the Director of Financial Aid

●Develop strategy, evaluate continually and redesign where appropriate all aspects of the admissions marketing program with the goal of maintaining a capacity enrollment of qualified students

●Actively promote and teach the faculty and staff about school admissions and the enrollment management process

●Proactively communicate with prospective and current parents

●Liaison to the Parents Council on issues concerning enrollment management

●Assist in the management of the re-enrollment of current students for the succeeding year

●Oversee the network of parents, former parents and alumni to assist in the admissions program

●Be a regular presence in classrooms, dorms, playing fields, and around the general campus promoting a positive school culture

●Keep relevant statistics on all aspects of the enrollment management program and ensure the Head of School is regularly updated on enrollment issues

●Represent the school at various gatherings and conferences

●Act as a member of various ad hoc and standing committees as necessary

●Support the school and its leadership

●Act as a leader in the field of best practices in admissions and girls boarding schools

●Bachelor degree required, Master's degree preferred

●Five years of experience as a Director of Admissions is required

Qualifications and Professional Skills

●Bachelor’s degree required; M.B.A., M.Ed. or related advanced degree preferred

●Five years plus of experience as a director of admissions required

●Extensive experience/knowledge of independent boarding schools required

●Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), knowledge of Blackbaud, Proof, and other school administrative software programs a plus

Varsity tennis coach

Westover School is seeking an individual who possesses the skills and motivation to serve as Varsity Tennis Coach. The candidate should have knowledge of and experience with the game and be a positive educator.

This position is for the spring 2018 season. Practices are Monday’s through Friday's after 1 p.m. with most matches occurring on Wednesday's and Saturday's.

Part time community service director

Westover is seeking a part-time community service director. Ideal candidates would have a passion for and background in experiential service learning, justice work, and community engagement. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as prior work with school-aged students are preferred. Established connections to service organizations in the local community would be beneficial.

Community service at Westover, a rich and long standing program, is a component of the Rasin Center for Global Justice. The Center’s four programs (community service, environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and global programs) work collaboratively to offer distinctive, innovative programming for our students. Community service opportunities occur for them throughout the year, primarily on weekends, but additionally as a team sport alternative in the afternoons in the fall and spring. Learning Specialist

Westover School is seeking applicants for a part-time Learning Specialist beginning with the 2017-18 academic year. The Learning Specialist will meet with students to work on time management, organization and study skills in the Center for Academic Support and attend conferences with students and teachers to address educational needs. The Learning Specialist will work closely with the Director of Academic Services and teachers to develop intervention plans and monitor student progress. Additional responsibilities include attending meetings regarding students in academic difficulty, educating faculty on learning differences and classroom strategies, and meeting weekly with the Director of Academic Services.

The Learning Specialist position could be combined with additional components at the School to total a full time position.

Qualifications: Preferred candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree; experience working with students with learning differences; proven success in working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community leaders; and outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
