Six Wildcats Named to NFHCA Academic Squad

For the second year in a row, six athletes have been selected as members of the Keith Waldman – Optical Performance Associates/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic Squad for participating in the 2016-2017 varsity field hockey season while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 85% or higher. This high honor is awarded to juniors and seniors who meet these academic criteria. Three juniors and three seniors represent Westover.

Jacquelynn DeSantis '18 is a two-year member of the varsity field hockey team, joining the squad in her sophomore season after a year on JV. She was a versatile player for the Wildcats this season, primarily as a forward but also being relied on for defense, and even from midfield from time to time. Jacquelynn's determination and aggression on the field was a huge asset to the Wildcats. Jacquelynn tallied two goals this season.

Maggie Liao '17 joined the varsity team for the first time in her senior season. Maggie played on the JV team for two years before taking a season off. She came back with passion and improved her understanding of the game in her senior season, primarily moving from a defender to the attacking line.

Chaylee McAdam '18 served as a captain in her junior season this fall. Chaylee started the season as the team's center defender. After a hard hit to her leg in the beginning of the season, Chaylee went through rehabilitation for a couple weeks before getting back to playing at full capacity. Chaylee recorded a couple defensive saves for the team and truly controlled the game because of her understanding of the sport. Chaylee represented Westover at the post-season All-Star game for the second year in a row.

Morgane Pichard '17 brought great speed, dedication, and skill to the Wildcats' squad this fall. Morgane's passion for the sport was contagious among her peers. Morgane is a four-year member of the varsity team. This season, she led the team with high energy both in practices and games. Morgane played primarily midfield for the team, with her endurance serving as a reliable resource. As a senior, Morgane represented Westover at the post-season All-Star game with Chaylee in November.

Heather Shi '18 is a first-year member of the varsity field hockey team, having joined Westover this fall as a junior. It was clear Heather came to Westover with some field hockey experience. Heather primarily played offense for the Wildcats this season.

Meadow Wicke '17 is a four-year member of the field hockey program, joining the varsity team in her senior year. Meadow's passion for the sport was demonstrated by her continued participation in the sport throughout her time at Westover. Meadow will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institution next season and is looking to study Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
