Westover Varsity Softball 2017
Westover softball has been one of the most successful sports programs at Westover. Since 1999, Varsity softball has earned five Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference titles and four Western New England Preparatory School Softball Association tournament appearances, winning the championship in 1999 and 2002.
The players are encouraged to work hard on fundamental skills to prepare themselves mentally and physically and always play with passion. Every time they step onto the field, they approach the game with a winning attitude, and the 2017 season should bring continued success to the program.
The 2017 team returns a core of veteran players who look forward to competing for the league championship. The nine returners in the program are seniors, Sophie A. and Summer M., juniors Emily D., Gabbie D., and Eva F. and sophomores Ashley H., Shannon M., Tutu N. and Brigid P.
The team welcomes two new juniors and three freshmen to varsity. The team is coached by Kati Eggert and Cathie Gemino Hillian '99.
Westover was represented well in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference this winter with five athletes being named All-NEPSAC in swimming and basketball.
The varsity swimmers are honored as National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) Silver Level Scholar team for earning a team GPA of above 3.5.
At the Winter Sports Awards held on March 1, each team was recognized and the girls were awarded their letters, pins, and certificates. Nineteen students received team awards, while four were recognized as All-CISAC (Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference), three as CISAC Honorable Mention, and one as a NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) All-Star.
The Swim Team's successes at the New England Prep School Swimming and Diving Division III Championships included its first New England Champion.
