Westover Varsity Softball 2016
Wildcat Softball has been one of the most successful sports programs at Westover. Since 1999, Varsity Softball's has earned five Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference titles and four Western New England Preparatory School Softball Association tournament appearances, winning the championship in 1999 and 2002.
The players are encouraged to work hard on fundamental skills to prepare themselves mentally and physically and always play with passion. Every time they step onto the field, they approach the game with a winning attitude, and the 2016 season should bring continued success to the program.
The 2016 team returns a core of veteran players who look forward to competing for the league championship. The nine returers in the program are four seniors Zulie D., Nola I., Katie U. and Kayla N. and Sophie A., Emily D., Emily A., Gabbie D., and Eva F. with Senior Dunn captaining the squad. The team welcomes five freshmen to varsity. The team is coached by Jim DeMeis and Cathie Gemino Hillian '99.
The Swim Team has made a big splash in the eight-year-old program's record books this season; seven of its 11 school records have been shattered.
Six Westover Wildcats representing all four varsity teams from the fall season have been honored as all-stars.
History was made Friday evening at the Fuller Athletic Center. Westover junior Gabbie Dunn became the first student-athlete in Westover history to reach 1,000 career points.
