For a long time we have been trying to find out about the Loving Cup Ceremony. To our surprise, no one has come forward with any recollection of this Senior Class Ceremony, which took place during graduation week from 1910 through 1935. The St. Margaret's yearbook, The Salmagundi, records the following:
• "The Loving Cup Ceremony was also introduced by Miss Hillard and was first put into practice in the Spring of 1898. It is generally observed on Saturday evening before Commencement Day, in the gymnasium, about nine o'clock. The girls all stand in a circle and Miss Hillard starts the cup, which is handed from one to another, until it has gone all around, while everyone sings Auld Lang Syne and the School Songs." At Westover, according to one extant photograph, the Seniors gathered on the steps next to the Lantern Room. Does any of this jog anyone's memory? If so, please let us know.
