The Westover tennis program has had great successes in the past, going undefeated in 2001 and capturing CISAC League Championships in 2006 and 2007.
Last year’s team went 11-5, and captured the 2007 Connecticut
Independent School Athletic
Conference regular season and tournament title, going undefeated in
conference play. Individuals earned All-League Honors in both singles and doubles. In addition to shutting out conference opponents
Westover picked up big wins against rivals Suffield and Millbrook.
The 2008 squad guided by fourth year head coach, Allen Fitzsimmons,
looks to continue to build off of last season’s success. The team
returns
three of their top singles players and three seasoned doubles players and will be joined by the strongest incoming class in recent memory. Two new sophomores and two freshman will make an immediate move into the starting line-up. The 2008 team has their eyes set on a third straight CISAC Championship and will look to avenge close losses against teams such as Berkshire and Miss Porters.
In
addition to the 6 outdoor courts on campus the team has training access
at an area indoor club to maintain skills when the weather is less than
cooperative. In the past the team has taken training trips to San Diego
and will look to train in Miami over spring break this season. The
Westover tennis program is built around hard work and dedication,
and if the team remains healthy and focused they will enjoy a
beautiful spring.
