Welcome to Westover! Mine will not be the only voice you hear saying these words, as
you swing open our big front door and feel the tug of an incredibly warm and inspiring
community. Westover is a remarkable place for young women to stretch their minds and
strengthen their bodies, to expand their creativity and explore entirely new worlds, to
find a solid sense of self and decide where they want to go next.
Westover is something rare and unexpected: a rigorous school with a very big heart and
soul. We are a community of learners of every age who think passionately about big ideas,
care intensely about each other, and weigh seriously our responsibility to the wider world.
At Westover, you will encounter girls from every background you can imagine and find
you have profound things in common. You will make close friends who will continually
surprise you with the freshness and confidence of their ideas. And your friendships will
include faculty members who will prepare you superbly for college—and who teach classes
so fascinating, you might think you're already there.
In more than 30 years at Westover, I've played many roles—teacher,
department head, administrator. But it was as the mother of two very
different Westover girls that I saw first-hand the power this school
has to work with each girl as an individual and to celebrate her
strengths. Our students are a deeply committed group. They are serious
scholars, gifted musicians and artists, talented athletes. It is not
nerdy to be accomplished and committed here; it is the sign of a
leader. This is a school that does not put kids in boxes; it is a
school that encourages trying new things, a school that celebrates
excellence.
Come visit if you can, and experience for yourself the combination of independence and
community that is uniquely Westover.
Sincerely,
Ann Pollina, Head of School
