Summer Programs

Save the Date for our 2010 Summer Programs!

Session I will be held on July 18-23 and Session II on July 25-30.

Westover School Summer Programs in the Arts and Academics are for girls entering grades 7, 8 or 9.

Summer Programs, July 18 - July 30, 2010

More than just a summer camp...it's a summer EXPERIENCE!

All of Westover's summer sessions are fully residential, designed to give every camper enriching programs during the day and an exciting camp experience in the afternoon and evening.

After a full day of the arts or academics, our campers make the most of their time with afternoon and evening programs. Campers are assigned dorm rooms, roommates, and dorm parents... What a wonderful way to experience all that Westover's summer programs have to offer!

COME JOIN THE FUN!

Westover's Summer Sessions set the stage for a well-supervised away-from-home adventure. Make new friends! Spend the evening around the bonfire eating s'mores, take part in talent shows, try a new craft, and don't forget a fun filled evening at a local amusement park!

Your tuition to camp includes all activities, arts and crafts, supplies for your classes, and all of your meals. Come for one week, or stay for two!

All courses are taught by Westover teachers, assisted by Westover graduates and current Westover students.

Don't miss out on the BEST camp experience there is! back to top

Course Descriptions

Drama
Session I & II

Perfect if you want to learn more about theatre, Summer Drama will provide you with instruction in Basic and Intermediate Acting Technique. Each session will include theatre games and improvisation, strengthening concentration and stage presence. The week will culminate in a festival of your own one-act plays and demonstrations.

Dance
Session I

Summer Dance is a fusion of essential dance elements and rhythmic adventures. The session will incorporate dance techniques with improvisational and compositional exercises. You will have the opportunity to compose and/or dance in a culminating demonstration!

Photography
Session I

Study Photography in Westover's state-of-the-art studio. You will learn the basics of photography using a 35 mm camera and explore such topics as exposure, lighting, and composition. You will develop your own black & white film in the lab and print in the dark room. The week will end with your own gallery show!

Ceramics
Session I & II

Clay is a material that can be shaped and worked directly with your hands. In this course, you will learn a range of techniques for making pots by hand. Basic skills are gained as you learn to control and manipulate the clay by pinching, coiling or stretching slabs. All aspects of the ceramic process, from preparing and recycling clay to glazing and firing work, are explored. Finally, you will design your very own pots and glaze and fire them to take home!

Creative Writing
Session II

Are you entranced by the magic of language, often finding yourself weaving words together into poems or stories? If you are, you will love this class devoted to creative writing. In this workshop devoted to practical exercises and readings to prompt creativity, you will craft your own book, a short collection of stories and poetry you will write in and out of class, ending the week by binding your works together with an original cover.

Video Production
Session II

This week-long intensive immersion into the exciting world of Video will introduce you to video camera control, script writing, storyboarding, non linear editing and presentation. This will be a good opportunity to learn how to use and master your family's video camcorder. If you do not have a video camcorder, Westover has a camera for class use.
