College Counseling

College Counselor Corky Beaulieu talks with parents and their daughter during Parents' Weekend.

We know you'll want support through this important process. That's why, beginning in the sophomore year, we offer you guidance every step of the way - helping you find the school that will match your needs.

Of course, working hard throughout your high school years - in both your curricular and extracurricular pursuits - is something only you can do. What we do is help you make decisions for yourself that are a good fit. We want you where you will be successful as a student, an athlete, an artist, and maybe even have a new adventure in a different part of the country or different part of the world. And we start helping you early:

Sophomores get a taste of their future possibilities by participating in a Career Day, shadowing local alumnae and parents for a day. They also attend a College Fair in the spring.

Juniors are given a full semester of college prep, beginning in January and covering the entire process - from targeting schools to meeting school reps to developing resumes they can use when applying for a summer job. They even study business and social etiquette.

Over summer break, we send these returning-as-Seniors a letter confirming their list of college choices. Students are encouraged to use and explore our searchable, secure intranet hub, which enables them to create, store and print all their applications, as well as view data on Westover student GRAT, GPA, SAT and ACT scores for the past 10 years.

Seniors perfect their "game plan," organizing their school choices into an A, B and C List, including their respective application deadlines. Westover students are given personalized assistance in developing their applications, writing essays, acquiring recommendations, and pursuing scholarships or need-based financial aid.

A sampling of colleges attended by our graduates in the last five years: Amherst, Brown, Bryn Mawr, Bucknell, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Emory, Georgetown, Harvard, Haverford, Howard, Johns Hopkins, Macalester, Middlebury, NYU, Oberlin, Northwestern, Princeton, Rice, RPI, RISD, Smith, St. Lawrence, Swarthmore, Trinity, Tufts, University of Chicago, Union, UPenn, Vanderbilt, Wellesley, Williams, and Yale.
