Music students at Westover School, under the direction of Robert Havery, will perform in a Concert on Friday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m., with a snow date of Sunday, February 21, at 3 p.m.
The Glee Club will sing music from the "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi, and "Alleluia, Amen" from the "Place of the Blest" by Randall Thompson, accompanied by a chamber orchestra made up of professional musicians and advanced Westover instrumentalists. The Chamber Choir will sing two pieces from "Frostiana" by Randall Thompson, accompanied by orchestra. Two cappella groups will sing popular selections and Westover’s Gospel Choir will perform. Westover’s three handbell ensembles will ring music for four octaves of handbells and hand chimes, featuring the witty "PDQ Bells" rung by Westover's Advanced Handbell Ensemble. The Instrument Ensemble will play an "Andante for Harpsichord and Orchestra" by Handel.
In all, over 100 students will perform. Vocal solos will be offered by two of Westover's students who study music at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division, Hayley Keller and Alexandria Williams.
There will be refreshments and a silent auction at intermission.
The proceeds of the concert will benefit the Music Scholarship Fund which was established to defray the travel expenses of the Glee Club members for their concert tours. This year, proceeds from the Basket Raffle will go to help support Rwandan exchange students who will come to Westover as part of our Rwandan exchange program.
