"The Diary of Anne Frank" To Be Performed at 7:30 pm Feb. 12 & 13

Students of the Westover drama department will perform "The Diary of Anne Frank" by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett and adapted by Wendy Kesselman on Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13th at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s Performing Arts Center. Based on Anne Frank’s journal, "The Diary of Anne Frank" dramatizes the plight of eight people during the Holocaust, who fearing for their lives and went into hiding. In the play, the Frank and Van Daan families along with their dentist, Albert Dussel, find refuge in a secret attic annex of Otto Frank’s warehouse in Amsterdam as the war against the Jews is waged around them. Meip Gies and Mr. Kraler are the protectors of the family in hiding and risk their lives to provide them with the necessities of survival. Told in Anne Frank’s own words, it is an inspiring story of the strength of the human spirit in the face of hatred.
In the cast are Hannah Hartmann of Southbury, CT as Anne Frank; Alexis Zimmerman of Woodbury, CT as Otto Frank; Emeline Carlisle of West Hartford as Margot Frank; Allison Rogers of Lyme, CT as Edith Frank; Kim Thwaits of New Providence, NJ as Miep Gies; Robert Peterson of Woodbury, CT as Peter Van Daan; Hayley Wolcott of Woodbury, CT as Mr. Kraler, Jordan Willis of Woodbury, CT as Mrs. Van Daan; Megan Boucher of Plantsville, CT as Mr. Van Daan; Jessica Dierdorff Southbury, CT as Mr. Dussel; Katherine Lawlor of Watertown, CT as First Man; and Amber Chausse of Wolcott, as Second Man.
Westover faculty member Marla Truini of Roxbury, CT directs the play assisted by Marianna Mead of Yarmouth, ME as the assistant director. Chanttal Cabral of Miami, FL is the assistant stage manager, the lighting designer is Susan Kinkade, the costume designer is Renee Purdy, and Technical Director is Lindsay Harlow.
