Westover & Trinity Pawling Raise More than $30,000
Through American Cancer Society Relay for Life
With 17 teams and more than 200 participants, Westover School and Trinity Pawling School held a “mini” Relay For Life at Westover on Sunday, May 20th, that raised more than $30,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Teams of students, faculty, parents, and friends from both schools converged on Westover’s Molder Field for the 7-hour event. Members of teams circled a path marked by luminarias that were lighted at sunset. On the stands near the field luminarias initially arranged to spell out the word “Hope” were transformed to spell out the word “Cure” as the event drew to a close.
Throughout the day, participants mixed the serious – stories shared by cancer survivors and caregivers – along with the less serious – a beauty contest featuring Trinity Pawling students in drag. Refreshments, music and dance performances, face-painting, Frisbee tosses all added a festive air to the event.
The Relay for Life was organized as a senior class project by Katie Hedberg ’12 and Hayley Wolcott ’12 with Kati Eggert as the event’s faculty coordinator.
