Global Exchange Programs

Mission for Exchange Programs

Westover’s exchange programs provide opportunities for students to learn in another culture and experience new and rewarding challenges. Programs promote mutual respect for other cultures, encourage the development of an international network of friendships and opportunities, and allow the greater Westover community to experience and embrace diversity.

Exchange Schools

Australia (Perth): St. Mary's Anglican Girls' School

England (Thatcham): Downe House School for Girls

France (Villers Cottêrets):  Lycée Européen

Jordan (Amman): The Ahliyyah School for Girls

South Africa (Cape Town): St. Cyprian's School

Spain (Seville): Colegio Bienaventurada Virgen Maria Irlandesas de Bami

China (Shaghai): Shangde Experimental School

New for 2013!

Westover is pleased to announce a new exchange program with Shangde Experimental School in Shanghai - one of China's largest and most modern cities. This cultural exchange experience will take place during the summer and include a full academic program, a boarding experience, and sightseeing expeditions to locations throughout China. Learning in a school of 4300 students, located in a city of over 23 million, this is a unique and exciting way for students to experience a new culture and way of life. They also have the chance to refine their Mandarin language skills, all while living in a fast-paced international metropolis. As this is the first year an exchange program is offered in China, we look forward to sending students for this inaugural opportunity.

Language vs. Cultural Exchanges

Each program involves schoolwork, travel, sightseeing, and acclimatization in another part of the world. Language exchange programs are particularly intended for students to further develop their language skills and wish to become fluent, while classes in cultural exchange schools are taught in English.

Gap Program

Each year, Westover offers a place for a gap year program in Australia. A gap year is a year-long work and travel experience for high school graduates, intended for those who have already been accepted into college or university but will defer for a year. Most colleges are familiar with gap programs and support or even encourage them. The gap year is a unique opportunity to spend some time between Westover and college to grow, learn, and explore.
