Wildcat of the Week

The Athletic Department selects that individual or team who has made outstanding contributions for a particular contest or series of contests to be honored as Wildcat of the Week.

Thirds, Junior Varsity, and Varsity players are eligible to receive this honor. Nominations are submitted by the coaching staff.Below is a listing of previous Wildcats of the Week.


2017-2018

April 9, 2018 Whitney Hagen '19 and Niki Yan '19

The Wildcats of the Week for April 9, 2018 are varsity tennis players Whitney Hagen ‘19 and Niki Yan ‘19. These two partnered for doubles against Pomfret on Wednesday, April 4th and came out with the win in their first of the early season. Whitney and Niki defeated their opponent in the first spot in doubles 7-1. Coach Karen Montini applauds the girls not only for their very decisive win at Pomfret, their contributions during the new coaching transition. They have been helpful and supportive during the first few weeks of spring training and competition. Particular shoutout to Whitney who came out early on Saturday before the varsity match to JV, the best way to celebrate her birthday! Congratulations to both Wildcats!

April 2, 2018 Ally McKenna '21

The Wildcat of the Week for April 2, 2018 goes to a member of the varsity lacrosse team who stood out during the three scrimmages at Sheehan High School. In the three mini games, she was asked to play three different positions. Not only did she play well at all three, she had a positive attitude throughout, and did whatever Coaches Eric and Katie asked of her. Despite only being a freshman, her poise and maturity are already very noticeable. Congratulations to The Wildcat of the Week, Ally McKenna!

March 3, 2018 Sophia Andrew '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, March 5, 2018 is senior co-captain Sophia Andrew of the Varsity Swim Team. In her final meet as a senior at the New England Championship at Cornerstone Aquatics, Sophia performed her best in her two individual events: 50 and 100 freestyle. In the 50, Sophia qualified for the consolation finals and went her lifetime best swim, placing 15th overall and earning the team 2 Points. Sophia placed 18th in the 100, matching exactly her best time and was the second alternate. In the 400 freestyle relay, she helped her teammates Morgan Foltz ’20, Sarah Pino ’20, and Anabelle Pernerewski finish in in 4th place and set a new school record. Her split was two seconds faster than her previous best. Congratulations, Sophia!

February 26, 2018 Nadia Tavares '21

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 26, 2018 is swimmer Nadia Tavares ‘21 of the varsity team. At the Bud Erich Invitational, Nadia raced a personal best time, placing 10th on Westover’s Top-10 list in the 100 breaststroke. Her time drop of 3 seconds has been consistent in last weeks, as Nadia has continued to improve since the first meet of the season back in December. Nadia also saw great time splits in her freestyle events. Nadia focuses on new skills until she masters them and is a great listener. She uses her teammates to guide her and makes adjustments in her strokes to improve her skill. Congratulations, Nadia

February 19, 2018 JV Basketball Team

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 19, 2018 is the JV Basketball team for their undefeated 12-0 season. Westover dominated this season with its 4 seniors: Zola Bernardi, Maryam Choudhry, Eva Familia, and Hannah Geary; 3 juniors, Sarah Gordon, Sophia Pernerewski, and Sarah Tomasco; 3 sophomore, Meaghan Bottino, Katy Hunter, Olivia Pandiscia, and 2 freshmen, Aspen Monroe and Aseah Montambault. Westover defeated Gunnery, Convent of the Sacred Heart, MacDuffie, Hamden Hall, Canterbury (2x), Ethel Walker School, Stoneleigh-Burnham, Berkshire, Miss Hall’s, Miss Porter’s, and Millbrook. The team put up 514 points compared to their opponents’ 181 this season. Congratulations to Coach Craig Lamphier and Westover’s JV Basketball team.

February 12, 2018 Gabbie Dunn '18


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 12, 2018 is captain Gabbie Dunn ‘18 of the Varsity Basketball team. Gabbie is being recognized for varsity basketball Wildcat of the Week for the 6th time in her career (12/15/14, 12/07/15, 12/05/16, 2/20/17, 12/4/17). Gabbie reached the 2,000 point mark in the home game on Saturday against Capital Prep Harbor, where the buzzer alerted the 200+ fans that the benchmark was met. Gabbie recorded 38 points in the game, helping her team improve to 8-5 in the regular season.

February 5, 2018 Jade Morton-Alexander

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 5, 2018 is Jade Morton-Alexander of the JV Squash team. She has been improving her swing as of late, focusing on keeping her wrist straight. Coach Tammara Gary says Jade is one of the hardest hitters on the team. Throughout the season, her deep shots have improved tremendously, helping her pull a quick win in her match against Hopkins last Wednesday, beating her opponent 2 -1 in the 6th position on the ladder.


January 29, 2018 Sarah Pino '20 & Annie Guo '20

The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, January 29, 2018 are from the Varsity Swim team and the Thirds Squash Team. Sarah Pino ’20 recorded three best swims over the week and Annie Guo ‘20 has been quickly improving her new squash skills.

In the recent triple dual meet against Westminster and Canterbury, Sarah raced her fastest 50 and 500 freestyle in addition to her fastest backstroke leg in the medley. Sarah is fourth all-time in both events at Westover and has been a major point scorer for the Wildcats, winning the medley and sprint freestyle relays in nearly every meet this season. Coach Tammara Gary has been pleasantly surprised with newcomer Annie Guo this season. Annie quickly moved up the ladder to number 1 on Thirds. She holds her racquet high and swings with her whole arm and body. Annie won her third game versus Suffield, which was evident of her determination and perseverance in the court.


January 22, 2018 Olivia Pandiscia

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 22, 2018 is Olivia Pandiscia of the JV Basketball team. Olivia has been a great addition to this veteran team. In the 2017-18, the Wildcats boast a 6-0 record, including Monday and Saturday away games of this week against Canterbury School and Stoneleigh Burnham. On the road in Massachusetts on Saturday, Olivia put up 6 points. Coach Craig Lamphier also noted her great deal of energy over the victory. Congratulations, Olivia!

January 15 Zola Bernardi '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 15, 2018 is senior Zola Bernardi of the JV Basketball team. This week, Zola scored 10 points in the Wildcats’ victory over MacDuffie and 12 in their victory over Hamden Hall. Included in those were 12 points from beyond the 3 point arc. She is also amongst the leaders in assist and steals. Zola is part of a well balanced JV team, that is undefeated at 4-0 as of 1-13-2018 and 2-0 on the road back to back just this week.

January 8, 2018 Lisa Hou '20

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 8, 2018 is first-year player Lisa Hou '20 of JV Squash. On Saturday against Taft, Lisa won her match 3-1. She is often the first in the court to warm up, she quickly applies any coaching she receives. Every match she gives 100%. Even during the snow day she was in the squash courts practicing and was found running on the treadmill. Her serves have improved immensely, challenging for her opponents to return. She's proving to be a smart player as well, often times hitting the ball away from her opponent with a deep straight or deep cross court. She's already the fifth seed on the JV team and with continued hard work will move even higher on the ladder.

December 11, 2017 Anabelle Pernerewski '21

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 11 is Anabelle Pernerewski ‘21 of the Swim Team. In her first high school meet against Cheshire Academy on Wednesday, Anabelle helped to break the School's 200 medley relay record in the breaststroke leg. Near the end of the meet, Anabelle touched at a new record for the 100 breaststroke, taking nearly a second off of the previously set record by Sophia Hodson in 2014. Congratulations, Anabelle!

December 4, 2017 Gabbie Dunn '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 4, 2017 is two-time tri-captain Gabbie Dunn of the Varsity Basketball team. After a four-game weekend in the Third Annual Tip-Off Tournament. Gabbie helped lead the team to a Second Place Finish and earned for her third time the Most Valuable Player in the tournament. Nine schools participated in the tournament and the coaches recognized her for her 103 points scored. Congratulations, Gabbie.

November 13, 2017 Maddie-Claire N. '19

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, November 13, 2017 is Maddie-Claire N. '19 of the varsity cross country team. Maddie-Claire is a third year member of the team and was instrumental in the team's second-place finish at the New England Championships on Saturday. Westover's top finisher, she completed the course with a lifetime best of 20:49, earning a 14th place individual finish of the 157 competitors and all-New England status, along with three of her teammates who finished Top 20. Her hard work and dedication this season has been exceptional. Congratulations, Maddie-Claire!


November 6, 2017 Bridget G. '19

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, November 6, 2017 is Co-captain, Junior Bridget G. of the Varsity Volleyball team. Bridget led the team through two back to back wins last week. Both games went the distance and the Wildcats had exciting 5th game wins. The first match was against rival girls’ school Ethel Walker, a team that the Wildcats had not beaten in over 10 years. Bridget kept the team positive with key kills, blocks, and aces. The second match versus Hamden Hall was a come from behind victory. After losing the first two sets, in a loud gym on their senior day, Bridget boosted the team with positive energy in the huddle and again made key plays that kept the momentum on the Wildcat side. Congrats to Bridget!

October 30, 2017 Mira S.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 30, 2017 is Mira S. of the Cross Country team. Mira had an amazing race at the CISAC Championships, earning a season best time, though the Wildcats' home course tends to be somewhat slow. She finished 14th individually, earning all-CISAC runner status and contributing to the team's victory. She has been a leader by example all season, pushing herself at practice and never complaining about challenging workouts, and this week all that work truly paid off. Congratulations, Mira!

October 23, 2017 Shannon M. '19 and Emily D. '18

The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, October 23rd, 2017 from the varsity field hockey team, are Shannon M. '19 and captain Emily D. '18. On Saturday of Family Weekend, the Wildcats hosted the Fighting Daisies of Miss Porter's in an exciting matchup, with both teams looking for their first win. The Wildcats got on board first with a quick fire from center midfielder Shannon in the first half. After the visitors got on board to tie it in the second, the Wildcats took their opponent past regulation into overtime. Shannon carried the ball up the field and found teammate Emily for the game-winning-goal with less than a minute left in overtime and ended the game in sudden death. Congratulations, Shannon and Emily!

October 16, 2017 Julia M. '21 and Isabelle P. '20

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 16, 2017 is the duo from the JV Volleyball team that has been stellar in helping the team go 2-0 over the last week: Julia M. ‘21 and Izzy P. ‘20. These two players have both been huge standouts in Westover’s last two games, specifically on serve against Miss Hall’s and Hamden Hall. Julia and Izzy have combined for almost 70 service points with 15 aces combined in the last two games. Izzy has 19 and 15 points in the two games and Julia has 16 and 18 in the last two. They also each have 8 and 7 aces respectively. In all those serves they also only missed one each. Congratulations to Julia and Izzy and keep it up!

October 9, 2017 Tutu N. '19

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 9, 2017 is Tutu N. ’19 of the Varsity Volleyball Team. Tutu was a major contributor to the Wildcats’ victory over Miss Halls on Saturday, October 7. The Wildcats defeated Halls 3-0 in a strong fashion, winning sets 25-20, 25-21, 25-18. Tutu is a three-year starter on Varsity and a co-captain of the 2017 squad and for the last three seasons, she has started as setter in Westover’s 5-1 rotation. Impressively, so far in her junior year, she is averaging 16 assists per game. Congratulations, Tutu!

October 2, 2017 Meredith D. '19

The Wildcat of the Week for October 2, 2017 is Meredith D. ’19 of the JV Soccer team. Meredith played solid in the goal on Saturday against Ethel Walker School, earning a shut out, and allowing the Wildcat’s JV team to ring the bell after the 1-0 victory. Meredith is a strong, experienced voice on the team who is able to give positive direction from the back. Meredith works hard, stands up for her teammates and much of the team’s success can be attributed to her leadership and attitude. Keep it up Meredith!

September 25, 2017 Lydia M. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for September 25, 2017 is a captain of the varsity cross country, Lydia M. '18. Lydia is a three-year member of the cross country team who worked hard over the summer to establish a strong base for the season and improve her speed. Her efforts have paid off, as she has been consistently running a full minute faster than last year despite the unseasonably hot temperatures. At the Canterbury Invitational, she earned an 8th place finish of 108 competitors and helped lead the team to a convincing victory in the large race. She is a strong leader by example for the team, as she gives her all each day to continue to run faster longer.

Monday, September 18, 2017 Stacy S. '21

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of Monday, September 18, 2017 is Stacy S. '21 of the JV Soccer team. Stacy is a player who you can count on to always try her best, no matter the situation. During games and practices she works hard, with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. In her first JV soccer game for Westover, she helped the team with a 7-0 victory over Miss Hall's, and jumped into any position she was asked to play. Well done Stacy!

The Wildcats of the Week for May 17, 2017 are the Varsity Rowing Team. The team officially competed in three races this spring. They have become a completely autonomous program this year. The team was victorious in their contest vs. Forman and Taft's novices. Congratulations to first-year competitors who gained valuable race experience, Sarah P. ’20 (spare), Gabby Y. ’19 (coxswain), Maddie-Claire N. ‘19, Jess G. ‘19, Chloe K. ’17 and Tegan M. ’19. Special recognition to Alex K. ’17 (stroke) who completes her third year with the Varsity Rowing program and the only remaining member of the Gold Medal winners from the 2015 Lower Boat Regatta.


Monday, May 8, 2017 Maddie H. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 8, 2017 is Maddie H. ’18, the staring goalkeeper for the varsity lacrosse team. Maddie has been incredibly solid and consistent in her play this season, making 10 saves in the team’s 20-5 win against Stoneleigh-Burnham on Saturday, May 6. Her teammates and coaches, along with spectators of the games, have admired her dynamic saves at big moments. Coach Eric has stated that Maddie is the toughest goalie he has seen at the high school level. Her speed, agility, and quick reflexes help keep her team in games. Congratulations to Maddie on being named Wildcat of the Week for the third season for varsity lacrosse (4/20/15, 5/2/16)!

Monday, May 1, 2017 Hannah G.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 1, 2017 is a member of the Golf Team, Hannah G. Hannah is a second-year player on the team now competing in the number 1 position. During the team's match last week with Choate and Ethel Walker, Hannah scored her first birdie ever on the par 4 8th hole. After hitting a great drive she hit a fantastic wedge shot that nearly went in coming to rest about four inches away. A “tap in” completed her birdie 3 on the hole. While losing to Choate 3 and 2 she went on to card the Wildcats' first match win of the season beating EW 4 and 3. Congratulations, Hannah!

Monday, April 24, 2017 Danielle R. '20

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 24, 2017 is Danielle R. '20 of the Junior Varsity Lacrosse Team. She is a freshman starter and a talented center and wing player for the team. Danielle is a devoted lacrosse player who works to improve her own play and grow the skills of the entire team. In the game against Miss Hall’s, Danielle played an excellent game at the center position. She made sure to hustle on our transition from offense to defense and force turnovers in our favor. Danielle also took the initiative to settle the ball in our offensive end in order to create some shot opportunities. Beyond just game day play, Danielle works hard and concentrates at every single practice.

Monday, April 17, 2017 Chaylee M. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 17, 2017 from the varsity lacrosse team is captain Chaylee M ’18. Chaylee had a fantastic game against Chase on Monday, May 10th for the Wildcat’s first away victory of the young spring season. She was praised by her coaches for her exemplary leadership as well as her strong play. In a huge overtime win that included great efforts and contributions from every member of the team, Chaylee stood out, scoring four goals including the game-winner on a free position shot. Congratulations, Chaylee, on being this week's Wildcat of the Week!

Monday April 10, 2017 Emily D. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 10, 2017 is Emily D. '18 from the varsity softball team. In the season opener, Emily hit a homerun off of the first pitch of the game to give the Wildcats their first run as well as their first lead of the season. Emily also contributed on the field, starting at left field and relieving the starting pitcher. Congratulations to Emily and the team for their 8-5 victory over Millbrook!



Monday, March 6, 2017 Morgan F. '20

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, March 6, 2017 is Morgan F. '20 from the Varsity swim team. At the New England Division III Championship meet, Morgan became Westover's first Champion. She took First Place in the 50 freestyle with a 25.84. She also medaled in the 100 freestyle, finishing in Second Place. She was a member of the 200 freestyle relay, which placed Second overall with a new School record and she raced a personal record at 25.15 in the fourth spot. To finish off the meet, Morgan also anchored the 400 freestyle relay which set a new School record. Morgan finished her freshman season having set four individual and three relay records this season.


Monday February 27, 2017 Gracey G.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 27, 2017 is Gracey G. ’17 from the JV swim team. Gracey worked hard throughout the season on her breaststroke, where she set very specific goals for herself. Gracey was determined to make the Top Ten list at Westover, and she did that near the end of the season. At Bud Erich’s at Hopkins though, for her last meet of the season, Gracey swam yet again a lifetime best in her 100 breaststroke, shaving off .10 from her time. Congratulations, Gracey!


Monday, February 20th, 2017 Gabbie D. '18 & Swim Team

The Wildcats of the Week for the week of Monday, February 20th, 2017 are Gabbie D. ‘19 of the Varsity Basketball team and the Wildcats Swim Team.

Gabbie earned Republican-American Player of the Week this week. Gabbie led her team to a 63-56 win against Millbrook on Wednesday, February 15th, where she totaled 32 points. Gabbie ended the season with a total of 595 points, a personal and School season record. Gabbie has been the starting guard for Westover for three years and served as tri-captain this season.


The Wildcats Swim Team won the Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference championship on the 15th at Hamden Hall. This is the first league title the swim team has won. The Wildcats recognized 7 girls as CISAC All-Stars (4) and Honorable Mention (3). The Wildcats earned three First Place finishes at the meet and five Second Place finishes, and the team totaled 398 points, an improvement of 38 points from last season’s championship meet.

February 13, 2017 Sarah T. '19

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 13, 2017 is Sarah T. ’19 of the JV Basketball team. In the Hopkins game on February 8, Sarah had 8 points and numerous rebounds. She had four clean blocked shots. She led the team in scoring and that was her first start at center of the season. Against Miss Hall’s on February 11, she had numerous blocks again, had 6 points, and led the team in rebounding. She contributed greatly to the two victories for the Wildcats and has done an incredible job filling in where her teammates needed her from injuries. February 6, 2017 Ella P.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 6, 2017 is Ella P. from the JV Squash Team. Ella has incredible determination and has shown this against every opponent this year. Ella focuses on each shot and works hard to keep her shots out of the middle. She looks at each point as an individual opportunity. Not only does her effort pay off in matches, but she finishes every match working hard and trying her best, setting the bar high for her JV teammates to follow her lead. Congratulations, Ella!


January 30, 2017 Chaylee M. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 30th is Varsity Basketball Captain Chaylee M. '18. The Wildcats defeated Kent School for the first time in 11 years. Tri-Captain Chaylee McAdam was a major contributor especially on the defensive end. With her excellent positioning and quick adjustments, Kent constantly had to look for different options often having to settle for less than optimal looks. Chaylee also grabbed 7 rebounds and chipped in a bucket. Chaylee has been an important vocal leader for the team and has lead by example at practices and games supporting all efforts of her team mates.

January 23, 2017 Joana P. '17 and Xitlali Z.

The Wildcats of the Week for the week of Monday, January 23, 2017 are the squash dynamic duo Xitali Z. and Joana P. This season, both Lali and Joana have exceeded all expectations this year. From easy wins in 3 games to tough wins in 5 games, Lali and Jo are still undefeated. Last weekend Lali had the toughest match so far. Playing against a very skilled and agile opponent, Lali went onto to win in 5 games against Loomis Chaffee. On the same court, Joana had recently defeated a much higher ranked opponent from Convent of the Sacred Heart. Joana and Heart's player went back and forth in games but Joana's perseverance helped her break through and bring home the final game. Both Lali and Joana have demonstrated going above and beyond for themselves and for their team.

January 16, 2017 Lydia M. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 16 is Lydia M. '18 of the Varsity Swimming Team. Lydia is serving as Captain of the swim team this year, and has brought the program to a new level. For the first time, the Wildcats defeated Hamden Hall in their tri-meet and also MacDuffie, 145-120-13. In the meet, Lydia scored 15.5 points across four events, being part of two of the record-setting 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays with teammates Bella Chen ’20, Morgan Foltz ‘20, Sarah Pino ’20. She also led the 200 freestyle to a win and placed 2nd in her 500 freestyle, touching at her season best and nearing her lifetime best.

January 9, 2017 Jiberly S. '18

The Wildcat for the Week of Monday, January 9, 2017 is Jiberly S. ’18 of the Varsity Squash team. In the team’s most recent match against Pomfret, Jiberly was winning 2-1, when in the 4th game she took a hard hit to her non-dominant hand from her opponent's back swing. After an injury time-out, she continued to battle in her match. Although she was not victorious on court that day, her willingness to persevere despite a significant injury was impressive. The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 19, 2016 is junior Eva F. of the JV basketball team. This past Wednesday, December 14, Eva scored 15 points had 7 rebounds and numerous assists, all from the point guard position as the team battled Sacred Heart down to the final minute. Though the Wildcats fell 35-42 with 2 starters out with illness , Eva put the team on her back, inspiring her teammates to step up and match her intensity, and nearly pull off an upset.


December 12, 2016 Morgan F. '20

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 12, 2016 is Morgan F. ‘20 of the Varsity Swim Team. Morgan made Westover history this weekend, putting her name on two records in just one swim. The 200 freestyle relay, consisting of Morgan, Bella Chen ‘20, Maddie-Claire Norris ‘19, and Sarah Pino ’20 finished second at the Kingswood-Oxford Invitational, while breaking Westover's 5-year old record, with Morgan’s leadoff breaking the School’s 50 freestyle record. Morgan also added her name to the Top-Ten All-Time list at Westover in the 100 backstroke and is just shy of the 200 freestyle record. Congratulations, Morgan!

December 5, 2016 Gabbie D. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 5, 2016 is tri-captain Gabbie D. ’16 of the Varsity Basketball team. Gabbie had 40, 18, and 25 in the 3 games the Tip-Off tournament this weekend. Head Coach Marty Pelosi (11th season) nominated Gabbie for the obvious selection for the week. "In one of the most wonderful sporting events I have ever been associated with, Gabbie made Westover history on Friday with the second 40-point performance of her basketball career and become the first 1,000-point scorer in Westover basketball. The large crowd, filled with students, parents, family, friends and other school's players, erupted in a truly a magical moment. It happened the way she scripted it...a step back 3 pointer! Her basketball skills are only matched by her desire to be the best. In a newspaper article she was asked how she does it and she credited her teammates for creating the opportunity. She is a gifted athlete, a caring person and a great example of Westover at its finest."

November 14, 2016 Isabella Wang

The Wildcat of the Week for November 14, 2016 is Isabella W. of the JV Cross Country team. After an incredible season during which she improved her best time by almost 3.5 minutes, Isabella was excited to participate in the grueling New England Championship race. After falling to the ground twice in the race, she picked herself up and finished the race covered in dirt, with her number torn almost completely off and with blood running down her leg. Her dedication to the sport was exceptional this year, and the determination she showed to complete the race was extraordinary. Congratulations on an inspiring race. November 7, 2016 Maddy McKenna '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, November 7, 2016 is Maddy M. ’18 of the JV Volleyball team. Maddy had 14 ace serves, 4 kills and a block in the Spooner Tournament, where the Wildcats earned First Place against Berkshire, Chase and Rumsey Hall in Washington, CT on Saturday, November 5. Maddy was awarded the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. She has been voted Player of the Game twice so far this season by the team. Congratulations, Maddy!


October 31, 2016 Elaine W. '19

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 31, is Elaine W. ’19 of the JV Field Hockey team. Elaine had an outstanding week and was a major contributing factor to the Wildcats’ first win (3-0) over Millbrook on Wednesday. Elaine’s quick footwork and speed allowed for her to be the first to the ball and have great breakaways down the field. Elaine showed great determination on the field and never stopped fighting for control of the ball. During the game on Saturday Elaine showed her desire to be a force on the field by giving it 110% the whole game. Her positive attitude helps to get the whole team excited to play. October 24, 2016 Morgan Foltz '20

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 24, 2016 is freshman Morgan F. of the JV Soccer team. Once again, Morgan had an outstanding week shutting down and frustrating the aggressive and talented Indian Mountain offense. With her strong foot she not only cleared the ball, but she repeatedly placed precise passes to our strikers who kept the opponent's keeper very busy with waves of scoring opportunities. Morgan’s speed, patience, determination, and understanding of soccer has helped the JV soccer team play at an exceptionally high competitive level this season, with wins in all but one of our matches thus far. For all of her contributions to the team, both during practice and during matches, Morgan has earned the honor of being the Wildcat of the Week in her first season at Westover. The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 17, 2016 is sophomore Abby K., of the Thirds Volleyball team. Kirk is always willing to help out the volleyball program. She helped the Varsity team and Head Coach Kendra Galusha by taking stats during Wednesday’s match against Canterbury. In Wednesday’s and Saturday’s games, the Varsity Wildcats went 2-0 against Canterbury and Watkinson. Thirds Coach Veronica McMahon honors Abby because “she is always working hard to improve her serving and setting skills. The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 10 comes from the Varsity Cross Country team. Senior Captain Lauren S. has been an outstanding contributor to the team this year and had a particularly strong week. She earned a season best time at Wednesday's home meet and then ran even faster at the Suffield Invitational on Saturday, October 8th. Head Coach Kate Seyboth and Assistant Coach Kristen Rowinsky are impressed with her so far this season. Lauren had a particularly amazing finish at Suffield, passing a competitor at the finish line who was throwing elbows to try to prevent her from getting by. She has also been instrumental in keeping everyone's spirits up through the challenge of two meets in four days.

October 3, 2016 Sophie A. '17

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 3, 2016 comes from the Varsity Volleyball team, senior Sophie A. On Saturday, October 1st, the Wildcats hosted the squad from Wilbraham and Monson Academy. Outsized at the net, the Wildcats were not intimidated. Consistent all season, Tri-captain Sophie Ackert took control of the back line with 18 digs on the day in addition to 2 aces. A tough loss for the Wildcats but a great performance by Sophie. Congratulations, Sophie!

September 26, 2016 Anna P. '17

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, September 26, 2016 comes from the Varsity Soccer team. Senior Anna P. is a three-year member of the varsity squad, greatly contributing to this season’s roster. The Wildcats earned their first victory of the season on Wednesday against Master’s 8-0, where Anna recorded 2 goals. She had recorded 2 prior to that in the Wildcats’ season opener against Hamden Hall. In their third game in five days, Anna recorded another goal and her first assist of the season at Canterbury in the team’s 4-4 tie. In addition to her impressive stats, Head Coach Cathie Hillian '99 is impressed with how Anna is showing a lot of leadership on the field and is consistently playing with high intensity.

May 16, 2016 Jiberly S. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 16th is Jiberly S. of the Junior Varsity Lacrosse Team. She is a sophomore returner and the starting goalie for the team. Over the course of the season, Jiberly has improved her on field communication with the team and increased the length of her clears. She also has become more aggressive in net meeting her opponents before they can complete their shot. Jiberly is a dedicated lacrosse player who works to advance and develop the play of the entire team. In the last game of the season, Jiberly played very well coming out with some key saves for the team.

May 9, 2016 Hannah G. '19



The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 9th is Hannah G. '19 of the Varsity Golf Team. Hannah is a first year player on the team just having taken up the sport a mere five weeks ago. She has steadily improved and developed into a competitive contributor on the team. Her season highlight came in her fourth week was coming in her match against Miss Hall’s and Ethel Walker playing in the number 3 position and winning both matches. She started out well winning the first two holes and throwing a par at them on the second to boot. She put her matches out of reach by winning the par 3 fifth hole after a fine tee shot just short of the green, chipping on and completing with a routine 2 putt. Hannah won 4 and 3 over EW and won 3 and 2 over Miss Hall’s.

May 2, 2016 Maddie H. '18

Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 2, 2016 is Maddie H. ‘18 of the Varsity Lacrosse team. Maddie has been consistent in cage this season, a major contributor to the success of the defense this season. In net against Hamden Hall this past Wednesday, Maddie had a 50% save ratio with 16 saves and also 8 takeaways. So far this season, Maddie has tallied 63 saves. Maddie’s confidence in net for her second year has proved her a true asset to the team. Congratulations, Maddie!


April 25, 2016 Sophia P. '19

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 25, 2016 is Sophia P. ‘19 of the JV Softball team. Sophia has pitched both victories for the Wildcats this season, most recently in the game on Saturday up in Pittsfield, Massachusetts against Miss Hall’s, totaling 11 strikeouts in the 5-inning 23-7 victory. Sophia also contributed at the plate, going 1-1 with a single and a perfect on base percentage with her five plate appearances. She crossed home four times for the Wildcats.

Gabby B
., senior and tri-captain of this year's varsity tennis team, is Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 18, 2016. She and her doubles partner - fellow senior and tri-captain Davis - started their doubles match off strong with a decisive 8-4 victory over Canterbury's first doubles team. Gabby took a little while to adjust in her singles match, but started to pick up steam towards the end of the first set where she went down in a close 4-6. However she quickly made the necessary corrections to come back to take the second set 6-4 and win the tie-break 10-7. Her grit and determination throughout the match carried her through and ultimately she earned the final win in a 9-0 sweep for the wildcats this week.

April 11, 206 Sophie A. '17

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, March 11th is Sophie A. ’17 of the Varsity Softball Team. Sophie is a three-year starter on the varsity squad, opening the season on the mound for the Wildcats. Offensively, she struck out 6 batters in the game while also contributing 4-4 at the plate, including a triple, three runs of the team's seven, and three RBI. Congratulations, Sophie, on a great individual performance at the start of the season!

March March 5, 2016 Sophia A. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, March 7th is Sophia A. ’18 of the Varsity Swim Team. Sophia, new this season to competitive swimming, earned a new Westover Top-Ten time in the 50 freestyle at New England's on Saturday, touching at 28.90 which is 5th on the list. She finished 20th overall in the 50 before her 100 freestyle when she raced a 1:05 to qualify for Consolation Finals. At night, her time of 1:04.91 was good for 15th place overall and now puts her 7th in Westover history. Sophia was also anchor to the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, where the Wildcats touched at season best times and placed and 13th and 6th respectively.

The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, February 29th are the Varsity Squash girls for their fine performance at New Englands! They are the 2016 Class B Squash New England Tournament Finalists just off first place by the narrowest of margins. The team was also honored to receive the Sportsmanship Award, given to the team selected by the other 15 teams in the tournament. For the tournament, the Wildcats boast a Flight Champion, two Finalists, a 5th , 2- 6th and a 7th place! The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 22nd is Maddie-Claire N. '19 of the Swim Team. Maddie-Claire’s successful performances in the CISAC Championship at Hamden Hall on Wednesday were due to her hard work ethic in practice and determination to get better at every opportunity. Maddie-Claire earned her way onto Westover's All-Time Top 10 List for the first time and is currently tied at 7th for the 50 freestyle. Her first time breaking into the 29's, Maddie-Claire placed 6th at CISACs, earning the team 9 points to help earn the Wildcats a 2nd Place overall. Maddie-Claire also helped the Wildcat's earn a 2nd place (26 points) in the 200 freestyle relay, breaking 2:00 for the first time this season.

The Varsity Squash Team are our Wildcats of the Week as the team captured the 2016 Division IV High School Squash Team Championships under Coach Jenn Pelletier. Team members listed in ladder positions; Joana Pacheco ‘17, Captain Davis Lemay ‘16, Xitali Zuniga ‘19, Claire Donovan ‘16, Hannah Meharg‘16, Carolyn Brazil ‘16, Isabelle Morrissey ‘16 and Sophie Ackert ‘16 won four matches with a combined record of 22-6. Three members of the squad were named top players in the tournament, as they did not drop a match: Donovan, Meharg and Brazil.

Congratulations to the Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 8, 2016, from the JV Basketball Team, Eva F. '18! Eva inspired a second half rally by scoring all ten of her points to lead the Wildcats to their sixth victory, 30-15 against Choate on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Eva leads the team in scoring, but it is her experience that is her biggest asset to the Westover Wildcats!

The Wildcat of the week for Monday, February 1, 2016 is Jacquelynn D. ‘18, a new member of Westover’s JV Squash Team this season. Despite being new to the team, Jacquelynn has been solid in whatever spot she holds on the ladder. This past week, Jacquelynn played the number four

spot against Canterbury and Berkshire and won both of those matches with determination and concentration. Jacquelynn consistently focuses on improving her game in practice and is always willing to help other team members improve theirs as well. Congratulations, Jacquelynn!

The Wildcat of the week for Monday, January 25, 2016 is Gabby Y. '19, a new member of Westover's Swim Team. Gabby swam the 200 and 500 freestyle for the first time in her career on Wednesday at Convent of the Sacred Heart. In addition to these two individual races, she persevered to swim in the 200 freestyle relay, immediately after completing the 500. Gabby has consistently worked hard this season, improving her strokes and dropping time in her freestyle races. Congratulations, Gabby!

The Wildcat of the week for Monday, January 18th from JV Basketball, Lizzie P. ‘18. Lizzie was tireless in the team's 27-24 win over Hamden Hall on Saturday, January 16, 2016, scoring 13 points in the game. Lizzie also hustled on defense recording multiple steals, and forcing several turnovers. Even while on the bench, Lizzie remained vocal throughout the game, cheering, shouting encouragement and support to her teammates on the court.January 11, 2016 Hannah M. 16

The Wildcat of the Week for January 11th, 2016 is Hannah M. ’16 of Varsity Squash. Hannah showed her determination when she came back from being down 1-2 in the #5 spot against Pomfret to win the match 12-10 in the fifth. Matched up against a strong opponent who was very similar to her own style of play, Hannah would have to rely on her mental toughness to push through each point. She ran down every single ball and did not let any factors outside the court distract her from capturing the match. Hannah's record is 4-1 so far this year, and she continues to push herself to improve during each practice in game. Congratulations, Hannah!

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 4th, 2016 goes to captain Zulie D. '16 of the Varsity Basketball Team. Coach Marty Pelosi spoke highly of her past week at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. "Her leadership and effort throughout the tournament was exemplary. She took control of the team on and off the court and had an individual high in points for her season in our final game [of 2015] in Orlando, Florida with 12." Zulie recently won this honor for Varsity Softball in spring 2015.

December 21, 2015 Jiberly S. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 21st, 2015 goes to Jiberly S. '18 of the Junior Varsity Squash team. In the all-girls' school match up on Wednesday, December 16th against Miss Porter's, Jiberly helped the blue and yellow earn a victory 5-2. Playing #3 on the ladder, Jiberly fell behind 0-2 and was able to close the gap before defeating her opponent 3-2. This is Jiberly's second time earning Wildcat of the Week for JV Squash, following her recognition last February as a freshman on the squad.

December 14, 2015 Lydia M. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 14th goes to Lydia M. '18 of the Swim Team. Lydia is a standout on the team, always leading the fast lane and working hard to hit each interval. She focuses on stroke technique and speed, and it paid off this weekend at the Kingswood-Oxford Invitational held at Trinity College against 7 other teams. Lydia competed inthe 500 freestyle and the 100 backstroke for the first time as a Wildcat and placed third All-Time at Westover with a 6:32.12 and eighth All-Time on Westover's Top-Ten list with a 1:20.41. Lydia's talent in the water is a huge asset to the team.

December 7, 2015 Gabbie D. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 7th, 2015 from the Varsity Basketball team, Gabbie D. '18. Gabbie went over the 500 career point mark with 88 points in the three games this weekend, scoring 35 points in the Wildcat's 47-19 victory against Chase on Friday night. She played all but 1:04 in the remaining two games of the weekend and accomplished what she did with 2 defenders on her most of the time. Congratulations, Gabbie!

November 16, 2015 Ireland T. '18


The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, November 16th, 2015 goes to Ireland T. '18 of the Varsity Field Hockey team. Ireland has been a major contributor to the team this season with her quickness to the ball and endurance. In her second year on the team, Ireland recorded one assist and three goals, her final one this past Saturday in the team's 3-0 victory against Cheshire on Senior Day. Congratulations, Ireland!

November 9, 2015 Maryam C. '18


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, November 9th goes to Maryam C.'18 of the Varsity Soccer team. Maryam distributes the ball well and is always hustling and giving her best when she is in the game. Often times it looks effortless when she is going for a 50/50 ball. She may have the toughest angle and have to fight with all she has to get a ball into the box or to her teammates but still manages to get it done. Last week, Maryam played very aggressively and finished beautifully for a hattrick against Ethel Walkers.

November 2, 2015 Francesca D. '19


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, November 2 is Francesca D. ’19, a new member of the JV Cross Country team, Francesca has overcome the level of endurance required for distance running. She has learned to push herself further at practices and recently yielded the benefits of her hard work. On Saturday at the CISAC Championships, Francesca dropped 2 minutes and 30 seconds from her previous best time, having dropped a full minute last week. The sky is the limit for Francesca, as she has two races remaining this season and should continue to see great improvement.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 26th is Emma T. ‘17 the JV Field Hockey team. Emma is new to field hockey and has played the crucial role of goalkeeper this season. Emma has tallied two shutouts this season, her second being this weekend against Porter’s for Parents’ Weekend. The team tied 0-0 and played a great game both defensively and offensively!

October 19, 2015 Isabelle M. '16

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 19th is Isabelle M. '16 of the varsity field hockey field. Is has played a crucial role this season as a midfielder and attacker for the Wildcats. She has played multiple positions, including center and right mid and up on the forward line for corner inserts. She has tallied two assists this year, one against Hamden Hall in the Wildcats 2-0 road victory at Hamden Hall on Saturday.

October 12, 2015 Gabby B. '16

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 12th is Gabrielle B. '16 of the Varsity Volleyball team. Gabby brought a lot to the court in the last two matches against Greens Farms Academy and Miss Halls. Coach Kendra Galusha says, "She constantly shows a lot of heart, energizing the team. She also took over the libero position this week and had no service errors." Congratulations to Gabby!

October 5, 2015 Brigid P. '19

This week's Wildcat of the Week is freshman Brigid P. '19 of the Varsity Cross Country team. This weekend, at one of the largest invitationals of the year, she ran over three miles with severe knee pain to finish 17th of the 120 runners. She was instrumental in the team's impressive 2nd place finish and earned herself an individual medal. She has been working incredibly hard and often pushes the pace of the rest of the group at practice. We look forward to witnessing her continued improvement as the year progresses.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, September 28th is Julia A. ‘18 of the Varsity Soccer Team. New to the team this year, Julia has contributed greatly. She is a huge presence on the field for the team. She has been playing a defensive midfield so far this season, distributing the ball well. She is effective in that she keeps the momentum going through the field, but is also a key player in helping defend. Head Coach Cathie Hillian nominated her for this honor. “She has been playing her heart out and goes hard to every ball, with no substitutions.”

September 21, 2015, Niki Y. '19

In the first JV Volleyball outing vs Berkshire, Niki Y. '19 came off the bench in the first game and showed her intensity and newfound skill. While still adjusting to our new rotation patterns, Niki was brilliant in the back row on serve-receives and digs; not to mention her stellar serving. All in all Niki had almost 10 ace serves in the match with several more that generated points for the Wildcats.

May 25, 2015 Rowing Team


The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, May 25, 2015 are the girls of the Rowing Team. It takes a great deal of courage, fortitude and determination to develop a program and this year's roster possessed all of these traits. This group of rookies and experienced rowers meshed into a very strong team, earning Westover's first gold medal in the 51st Lower Boat Regatta on Wednesday, May 20th. Congratulations, girls!

May 18, 2015 Priyanka A. '16

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 18, 2015 is Priyanka A. '16 of the Varsity Tennis Team. Always smiling and considerate, Priyanka is a perfect role model of a team player. She was motivated and determined in her match against Miss Porter's for the team's final match of the season. An hour before the match began, the team needed to make a last minute adjustment to the ladder due to an injury. Priyanka was quick to step up to the challenge of playing at a higher spot. She even challenged and moved from 4th singles into the number 2 spot for the day. Not only on this last day, but throughout the entire season, Prikyanka had the drive to be a better player to help her team improve.


May 11, 2015 Angela P. '17

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 11, 2015 is Angie P. ‘17 of the JV Lacrosse Team. Her perseverance and relentless attitude during games go unmatched. She consistently puts a 100% effort forward whether or not the team is up by two or down by ten. She serves as a role model for younger players during games and assists in elevating the level of play for the team. She is a tremendously hard worker and an integral member of the JV squad. Angie is a standout player on the team and works tirelessly on both offense and defense, helping the team transition in every single play.

April 27, 2015 Savannah L. '15

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of Monday, April 27, 2015 is Golf Team Co-Captain Savvy L. ’15. She posted an individual record of 3 and 1 for the week including an outstanding double win on Saturday, April 25th against Miss Hall’s and Ethel Walker and leading the team to the Wildcats first winning matches of the season. Earlier in the week she posted a 1 and 1 record in the matches against Choate and Ethel Walker. Playing in the number 1 position, Savannah now has a record of 4 and 3 midway through her senior season.

April 20, 2015 Maddie H. '18


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 20th, 2015 is Maddie H. '18. Maddie has quickly proven to be an invaluable player on the varsity lacrosse team this spring. Her strong and consistent play in goal has give then Wildcats a solid start to their season, adding a win on Saturday to bring their overall record to 2-2. Maddie's 11 saves at Monday's road game against Chase sealed a 7-6 victory. Mid-week the Wildcats dropped a tough game to a talented Hopkins team and Maddie worked hard in practice on Thursday and Friday to improve her game for Saturday's match up. Notching ten saves and allowing just three goals, Maddie and the Wildcats sent Miss Halls home with a 13-3 loss. Maddie's positivie attitude, hard work, and raw talent make her an excellent selection for Wildcat of the Week.

April 13, 2015 Sarah C. '17

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 13th is Sarah C. '17 of the JV softball team. In her first time in her career in a Wildcat jersey on Wednesday, April 8th, Sarah earned the win on the mound. Sara helped the Wildcats in their home opener against Kent to a 17-16 victory. She worked hard throughout the game, staying focused and working to improve her accuracy throughout each inning. By the end of the game, Sarah totalled five strike outs! In addition to her offense on the field, she also contributed at the plate with two hits.

April 6, 2015 Zulie D. '16


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 6th , 2015 is Zulie D. '16 of the varsity softball team. Zulie has been a member of the varsity team for three years and continues to start as the team's shortstop. In the Wildcat's first game of the season on Saturday, April 4th at Millbrook, Dunn played good defense while also boasting .833 at the plate. She led the team with her 5-for-6 with 5RBI in the opener, helping the team to their first victory of the season, 26-3.

The Wildcats of the Week honors for the week of Monday, March 9th go to two swimmers for their performances at the New England Division III Swimming Championship meet. Sophomore Maya N. of the varsity team and freshman Thayer K. of JV had outstanding swims on Saturday at Canterbury. Maya, as a first-year member in Westover's swimming program, qualified in prelims in both of her individual events. She swam lifetime bests in the morning in both her 100 fly and 100 back and scored points for the Wildcats in the evening. She is placed on the Westover Top-Ten in both events. Thayer swam the 200IM and dropped four seconds off of her time from earlier in the season. She also dropped four seconds in her 100 breaststroke, and just missed making the consolation heat in finals, placing 17th overall. Congratulations to both girls for an outstanding day!

March 2, 2015 Afua N. '15

The Wildcat of the Week for March 2, 2015 comes from the Varsity Squash team for her performance at New Englands on February 28th and March 1st. Senior, #4 Afua N. played a strong first match on Saturday morning dominating with an overall score of 33-6. She then earned a spot in the finals after winning a close semi-final match 3-1 against a talented Loomis opponent. Afua played some of her smartest and most aggressive squash in the final to take the championship match without dropping a single game to the #1 seed. She was comfortable and powerful on court, made excellent shot selections, and controlled almost every game she played. She made it clear how much she had improved this season, as she went into the tournament seeded third and came home with the first place trophy for the fourth flight.

February 16th, 2015 Madison H. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 16th comes from the Varsity Basketball team. When an ice skating injury sidelined Madison H. '18, she tried everything possible to continue to play basketball but was unable. In the end, the injury would cost her 5-6 weeks of the season. Instead of sulking away the time, Maddie refused to be any less a part of her team. Every practice or game saw her in attendance motivating her team and her coaches. A positive attitude and smile greeted the team every day. She was anxious to return to play but always remembered that an individual's contribution to a team goes far beyond points or other statistics. Maddie showed how important a heart is to a team. Coaches Marty Pelosi and Cathie Hillian got great pleasure out of seeing her finally take the floor this past Saturday, February 14th at Hamden Hall. Maddie's outing was a success on many levels!

February 9, 2015 Lizzie P. '18

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 9th is Lizzie P. '18. In Wednesday, February 4th's contest, she helped lead the JV team to victory over Choate. Lizzie led all scorers with 10 points, and in Saturday's victory over MacDuffie, she again led the way with 13 points, which included a 3 pointer. Collectively, she has scored 10 or more points in three games this season. Coach Craig Lamphier is proud to recognize her. "Lizzie works hard during practices to improve her skills, and the good work ethic is paying dividends."

February 2, 2015 Jiberly S. '18


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 2nd is Jiberly S. '18 of the JV Squash team. Her excellent play in the most recent Canterbury victory was a standout performance. She is able to stay focused no matter which way a match is going, such as on Wednesday when her games were incredibly close she stayed motivated and determined to do well for her team. Coach Sam Mallette nominates her not only because of her competitive play but for her consistently positive attitude.

January 26, 2015 Katie K. '15


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 26th,, 2015 is tri-captain Katie K. '15 of the Varsity Swim Team. Katie is a four-year member of the varsity swim team. Katie has been a very reliable teammate, willing to swim whatever events are best for the team. She has consistently been racing the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly, two of the more challenging events, as well as the medley relay butterfly leg. Katie currently holds Westover's fifth fastest time in the IM and the second best in the fly. She has come close to both of her lifetime bests already this season, such as at the Convent of the Sacred Heart meet on January 21st. Her coaches are proud of her progress and her commitment to both her team and the program.

January 19, 2015 Tais M. '15



The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 19, 2015 is Tais M. '15. Tais is a member of the JV Swim Team and has been an incredibly reliable teammate. In the last meet against Hamden Hall and Ethel Walker, Tais swam the 500 freestyle for the first time in her career. She also stepped up to fill in events when three of the eight varsity members were unable to swim. Despite her extreme nerves, Tais was able to compete in four events and help the team score 1 individual and 16 relay points of the team's 61 points.

January 12, 2015 Claire D. '16


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, January 12, 2015 is Claire D. '16. Undefeated so far at position #5 on the varsity squash team, she is a terrific team member both on and off the court. She regularly exhibits the drive to work her hardest, and always has a smile on her face even during the most grueling training sessions. An avid cheerleader and motivator, Claire is constantly encouraging her teammates both during practice and matches. Against a tough Berkshire opponent on Saturday, Claire stepped up and remained aggressive throughout the match, earning her fourth shutout victory with a combined score of 33-20.

December 22, 2014 Isabelle M. '16


The Wildcat of the Week for the week of Monday December 22nd is Isabelle M. '16 of the JV Squash team. Isabelle was one of the key players to the Wildcats 4-3 victory over Miss Porter's. After winning game one (11-4) and game two (11-6), Isabelle struggled against her opponent in the #1 spot, and lost the next two games. In a close game five, she was able to come back and win the match (11-9). She is not only encouraging of her teammates on and off the court, but she also displays the utmost sportsmanship when battling against an opponent.

December 15, 2014 Gabby D. '18





The Wildcat of the Week for the week of Monday, December 15th, 2014 is Gabbie D. '18 of the varsity basketball team. As a freshman she scored a game high -- and believed to be Westover record for a freshman in her first game -- 25 points versus Miss Hall's and followed that up with 15 points on Saturday against Wilbraham and Monson Academy. She played nearly every minute against Miss Hall's and the entire game against WMA. Head Coach Marty Pelosi describes Gabby as “mature beyond her years on the court" and that she “has a great sense for the game."

December 8, 2014 Sophia B. '15







The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, December 8th is Sophia B.' 15 from the JV Basketball Team. Sophia is a three-year JV team member and was named a tri-captain this year. Her scoring eight points in the season-opener against Gunnery on Saturday is only a part of her value to the team. As a point guard, she is entrusted with running the offense, and she did this well for the team's first victory of the season, 31-6.

November 10, 2014 JV Soccer Team







The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, November 10th, 2014 are the players on the JV Soccer Team! The squad is recognized for their outstanding performances in the last two games of the season against Kent and Porters: the toughest teams they faced all season. With a record of 9-0 going into these games, the Wildcats realized that they had to stick together and play with determination in order to achieve their goal: to win all the games in the season or to at least remain undefeated.

In the second half of last Saturday's Kent game, the team found themselves playing from behind for the first time this season. However, they only did so for fifteen minutes as the Wildcats ignited with newly found energy to dominate the rest of the game and to tie it with a final score of 1 -1.

At the Porters game this past Wednesday, the team denied a well-organized and strong Porters team from producing any significant threats. The team played with a lot of heart and intensity. The JV team finished with an undefeated season, producing the best record the team has ever witnessed.

November 3, 2014 Joana P. '17








The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, November 3rd is Joana P. '17 of the Varsity Soccer Team. Joana has played great defense over the coarse of the season, but even more impressively had to step up recently as goalie. She has been very positive about it and has done really well in goal. She has been complimented by several opponents' coaches after games for her skills. Joana has always been vocal and directed her team from the back and modeled good leadership on the field throughout the season.

October 27, 2014 Isabella Y. '15








The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 27th, 2014 is co-captain Isabella Y. '15 from the Varsity Cross Country Team. Isabella has been a four-year member of the team and this weekend had a breakout race at the CISAC Championship race. She placed 6th of the 43 competitors, earning a season best by over a minute and achieving the second best time of her life. She earned all-CISAC honors for her strong performance. Isabella has been working incredibly hard all season, pushing her pace and working through an early injury. Her season is far from over, as she has Berkshire and New England races in which to continue improving her already impressive times.

October 20, 2014 Jenny K. '16


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, October 20th, 2014 is Jenny K. '16 from the Varsity Field Hockey Team. Jenny earned a spot on the varsity team this fall after learning the sport as a sophomore on JV. Jenny is an incredibly disciplined player. She works tirelessly in practice and is constantly looking to improve her game. After coming off the bench in the first few varsity contests, Jenny has worked her way in to a starting position. In Saturday's 2-1 win against Miss Porter's, Jenny played an instrumental role in the midfield--shutting down Porter's offensive momentum through the midfield and supporting the forward and defensive line all over the field. As the clock ticked down, Jenny's smart and cautious play allowed Westover to head home with a victory.

October 13, 2014 Emily D. '18


The Wildcat of the week for the week of Monday, October 13th, 2014 is Emily D. '18 from the JV Field Hockey Team. Emily was key to the team's success in Saturday's victory over Millbrook. She was aggressive in earning and maintaining possession and performed perfectly in the offensive corners as the inserter. In the first half of the game, Emily finished the ball into the cage for the team's first goal of the season. The 1-0 win was also the first of the team's wins this season. The team is going in the right direction with Emily's commitment, focus, and hard work becoming contagious among her teammates.

October 6, 2014 Claire D. '16


The Wildcat of the Week for the week of Monday, October 6th is Claire D. '16 of the Varsity Volleyball Team. This award is not new to Claire, as she received this last season as a member of the JV team. This past week, Claire helped lead her team to their first victory of the season against Miss Hall's. The home team won 3-0 with scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-23 largely due to Claire's solid serves and hits, as well as her ability to adjust. Head Coach Veronica McMahon is impressed with her transition to the team this year.

September 29, 2014 Katie U. '18 and Erin B. '16

The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, September 29th are Katie U. '18 from the JV Volleyball Team and Erin B. '16 of the JV Soccer Team.

Brand new to volleyball, Katie has impressed her coaches and her teammates in recent games. Against Wilbraham & Monson on Saturday, September 27th, she had a run of serves and played great defense helping the team to their first victory of the season.

Erin has been a major contributor to the JV Soccer Team this year. She has stepped up the quality of her play to a very impressive level. In the Miss Hall's game this past Saturday, Erin's confident play and leadership as our dominant defender is a primary reason the entire team has performed so well, conceding zero goals. Coach Sarkis Boyadjian is impressed with Erin and thankful “for everything she does for the team, both during practices and in matches."

September 22, 2014 Priyanka A. '16


The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, September 22nd, 2014 is Priyanka A. '16 from the varsity field hockey team.

Varsity field hockey has yet to pick up a win in their first three contests, but Junior goal keeper, Priyanka Agadi, has kept them in games. When the team opened last Wednesday at home against a talented Hopkins team, Priyanka recorded 15 saves and allowed just two goals from a spirited Hopkins offense. On Saturday, the team played to a draw at King--once again the defense was led by Priyanka, who recorded a shut out and a highlight that included an overtime save on a high shot to the left corner. As the Wildcat offense continues to improve, Priyanka's consistency in the backfield will combine for wins.

September 15, 2014 Brittany B. 16

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, September 15th, 2014 is Brittany B. '16 from the JV volleyball team.

Brittany has been a consistent member of the JV volleyball team. The Wildcats started off their season host

ing Berkshire. Despite the loss, Brittany stepped up the Wildcat's level of play with her successful serving. She gave each game her best efforts and showed leadership both on and off the court.

May 19, 2014 Grace B. and Phoebe P.

The Wildcats of the Week for Monday, May 19th, 2014 are Grace B. '17 from the JV softball team and Phoebe P. '16 of the varsity lacrosse team.

Grace has been a consistent player for the JV softball team this year. At the plate, she has successfully hit in all of the games and even recorded a few extra-base hits, including a triple and 2RBI in the last game of the season against Canterbury on Saturday. Grace finished the season with over a .500 batting average, one of the highest on the team. Head coach, Kati Eggert, believes her enjoyment of playing on the field is something that makes her a very coachable player.

Phoebe, a midfielder, has been a standout player this season for the varsity lacrosse team, having started and played every minute of each varsity contest. Phoebe's reliability, skill, and speed in all aspects of the game are invaluable. Phoebe is a key part of Westover's transition game. She has stepped in to take the draw, and she is seen as a major threat on attack as well as a consistent force in the defensive end. A quiet presence on the field, Phoebe has lead her teammates by example and her coaches, Ann LeClerc and Liz McErlean, commend her for her positive attitude and unwavering determination.


May 12, 2014 Hannah O.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 12th, 2014 is Hannah O. '15 from the JV tennis team. She has worked hard throughout the season and has managed to elevate her game to a very impressive level. Playing at the single's number 1 spot this week, she defeated her strong Canterbury opponent with a decisive 8-2 score. In the last two weeks of the season, Hannah maintained her competitive edge through her focus and dedication to her team despite all her AP exams and her busy academic schedule. Her love for tennis and her intensity during practice has been a great asset to the JV tennis team this entire season.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, May 5th, 2014 is Hannah T. 15 from the varsity lacrosse team. In the absence of the starting goalkeeper for Saturday's game, Hannah volunteered to play in net. Her athleticism and competitive mindset were crucial to the team's win--she stepped out of her comfort zone to help her team and made 13 saves to lift the Wildcats to an 18-8 victory. In Monday's contest against Cheshire, Hannah notched her 100th career goal, tallying four goals and one assist. Her versatility on the field is unmatched and she continues to push her game to the next level. Her coaches, Ann LeClerc and Liz McErlean, are proud of her commitment to the team.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 28th 2014 is awarded to Golf Team Captain, Danny S. '14. She went out on Wednesday, April 23rd and posted a 43 for a double win against Choate and Ethel Walker. She was the medalist (lowest score) for both competitions that were played in difficult conditions. Prior to this, Danny made a wonderful effort against Loomis on Saturday April 19th. Danny shot a 39 to win her match 3 and 2, Playing in the number 1 position she now has four wins and no losses.

April 21, 2014 Rachel Y.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 21 is Rachel Y. '16 from the JV Softball team. Rachel pitched 5 innings on Saturday against Miss Hall's for her and her team's first win of the season. Rachel earned her first start on Saturday and impressively earned three strikeouts while walking only four. She fielded .1000%, assisting in three putouts to first base. Offensively, she contributed by hitting 5-for-5 in the 5th spot, including a single, two doubles, a triple, and 5RBI. She also crossed the plate four times. As a new sophomore, Rachel has made a great impact on the team already this season.

April 14, 2014 Nadia G.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 14th is senior co-captain, Nadia G. from the Varsity Tennis team. In the Wildcats' match against Canterbury on Saturday, April 12th, Nadia put in a tremendous amount of work to help her team take home the 4-3 victory on the road. Nadia's first set went into a tie-breaker situation that was a close run all the way until Nadia took the win at 11-9 points. Then she remained determined to complete the victory with a 6-2 win in the second set. Her work and determination solidified Westover's first win of the season. Her coaches, James Sorrels and Kate Wymard, are very proud of her for her accomplishments so early in the season.


April 7, 2014 Sophie A.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, April 7th is freshman Sophie A. '17 from the Varsity Softball team. In the first two games of the season, Ackert tallied five base hits out of eight plate appearances. Against Chase Collegiate on April 2nd she went 3-4 with 4 RBI. She also pitched 1 and 1/3rd innings for the Wildcats, tallying three strikeouts. On April 5th against Millbrook, Ackert went 2-4 with 4RBI. On the mound she earned two strikeouts in 2 and 1/3rd innings, helping lead the Wildcats to their first win of the season.


March 3, 2014 Sophia H.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, March 3rd, 2014 is junior, Sophia H. '15, a first-year member of the varsity swim team. This past weekend at the NEPPSA Division III championship meet, Hodson competed in two relays, the 200-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard breaststroke. In prelims in breaststroke, she shattered Westover's school record by nearly two seconds, touching at 1:17.54. In finals, she placed seventh overall. Sophia has been consistent dropping time all season in this event, which is well-deserved based on her hard work in practices and desire to compete in meets. Coaches Kati Eggert and Kate Seyboth are anxious to see her continued successes as a senior next season!


February 24, 2014 Shannon M.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 24th is Shannon M. '15, a member of the junior varsity swim team. This past weekend at the Bud Erich Championship Invitational held at Hopkins, she touched at first place in her 50 freestyle heat, improving her lifetime best time to 35.04, over a two-second drop. She also improved her 100 freestyle time by shaving off over three seconds. Shannon has been consistent all year in practices and her hard work paid off at her last meet of the season. Coaches Kati Eggert and Kate Seyboth are anxious to see her continued improvements next season!

February 17, 2014 Kaylie D.

The Wildcat of the Week for Monday, February 17th is junior, Kaylie D. Kaylie has been a huge asset to the Wildcats Varsity Basketball team this season and has been leading the team in points in the most recent contests. Last Monday, February 10th, against Christian Heritage, Kaylie scored 18 points, leading the team to the 30-21 victory on the road. Kaylie has now recorded well over 40 points in the last three games, of which 22 from one game, marking the most by a Wildcat this season. Her offensive contributions greatly contributed to the team making the CISAC quarterfinals.

February 10, 2014 Ashley S.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of Monday, February 10, 2014 comes from the Varsity Squash team. Junior, Ashley S. is a three-year member of the team and has been playing as #3 this season. This past weekend, the Wildcats traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the High School Nationals, and came home in 3rd out of the 16 Division III teams. Over the weekend, Ashley beat her four opponents 3-0 in each game, against Episcopal High School from Virginia, Blair Academy from New Jersey, Phillips Exeter from New Hampshire, and The Westminster Schools from Georgia. Ashley dominated the courts with energy, skill, and power, and stayed focused on and off the courts throughout the weekend.

February 3, 2014 Sophia B.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of Monday, February 3rd comes from the JV basketball team. Junior, Sophia B., has been a member of the team for two years and is also a member of the Varsity Soccer team. In the most recent game on Wednesday, January 29th against Choate, Sophia recorded eight points, two assists, and four steals. Most of her points, including one from behind the arc, came in the second period, helping the Wildcats to their 22-12 victory for their third win of the season, evening their record to 3-3. The Wildcats return to competition on Wednesday, February 5th home against Hopkins for their seventh matchup.

January 27, 2014 Andie D.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of January 27, 2014 is senior co-captain, Andie D., of the JV Squash team. Since losing their first match of the season, the team has strung together four straight wins. Andie has gone 4-0 during the streak including a 3-2 comeback win vs. Hopkins. In her most recent match against Canterbury, playing at number four, Andie did not let her opponent see past six points, helping her team to the 8-0 shutout. Andie's true strength is as a leader on and off the court, working hard at every practice, and giving 100% at every match. She is an excellent example for her teammates and inspires them to improve every day.



January 20, 2014 Stuart & Davis L.

Two members of the Varsity Squash team take the Wildcat honors home for the week of January 20th, 2014: sisters Stuart L. '14 and Davis L. '16. Both girls went undefeated at 4-0 each this week in competition. This award marks the third time Stuart has earned the honor in her time at Westover and the second this year for Davis.

Stuart, one of the captains of the varsity squash team, leads by example on the team. She pushes herself and teammates during practices and pumps them up before matches. She recently moved up to the number two spot on the ladder and her level of play has only improved, as she has been undefeated at that spot.

While Davis is only a sophomore, she is a very mature player. Playing at number six, her mental game has improved from last season as she controls the tempo of each match. She is willing to play with anyone during practice and always dissects our opponents before matches. Most impressively, she is the only member of her team who is currently undefeated this season at 6-0.

January 13, 2014 Paige C.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of January 13th, 2014 is Paige C., senior tri-captain of the Varsity Basketball team. Paige's game on Saturday the 11th against Chase was a standout performance. Despite the 56-30 loss, Paige had a triple double, which is 12 rebounds 18 points and 11 blocked shots. The 18 points in the game was her career high. This is the first triple-double at Westover in recent memory. Paige played all but 45 seconds in the game. Paige also helped lead the team to their first victory of the season: a 33-14 win at MacDuffie earlier in the week when the team traveled to Massachusetts on Wednesday, January 8th. Paige played tough defense and tallied a handful of steals, while also adding 8 points offensively.

December 16th, 2013 Sophie M.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of December 16th, 2013 is freshman Sophie M. In her first meet of the year on Varsity Swimming, Sophie earned two first-place finishes against Chase and Cheshire Academy. In Cheshire on December 11th, she finished first in both the 200-yard medley relay, followed by the 100-yard backstroke. Her backstroke time of 1:21.63 is already 6th best in the program's history. Sophie has been consistently working hard in the pool and at dryland practices and will continue to serve as a valuable member of the team.

November 11, 2013 Hannah H.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of November 11th, 2013 is senior Hannah H. In her fourth year on Varsity Cross Country, Hannah has been instrumental in the success of the team. Her leadership kept her teammates working hard and improving and she helped to create an incredibly supportive and tight-knit group. In competition, Hannah has been fearless, passing multiple runners at the finish line of most races and playing a key role in the CISAC Championship win for the team. After battling an injury early in the season, Hannah made an impressive comeback and ran incredibly well at her 4th and final New England Championship. She has been an amazing asset to the team and will be incredibly missed next year.

November 4, 2013 Deanna B.

Sophomore Deanna B., member of the junior varsity field hockey team, is the Wildcat of the Week for the week of November 4th. She is new to Westover's field hockey program and playing goalkeeper. This season she has improved drastically in her skills, which is most notable in her confidence in the cage and her communication with her defenders. Deanna has worked hard all season to improve her footwork and quickness as well as the strength in her clears. She has learned the position well, being aggressive by coming out of the cage to cut off an attacker's angles and shots. In Saturday's contest, she made a season-high 28 saves in the cage. She started and played every minute of every contest this season for the Wildcats.

October 28, 2013 Davis L.

Sophomore Davis L., member of the Varsity Soccer Team, is the Wildcat of the Week for the week of October 28th. She regularly contributes to the team both on and off the field. Davis is always helping with setup and cleanup before and after practices and games; she volunteers for any duty asked - but those are only the least noticeable tasks she has taken on as of late. Davis has come into her own on the field, demonstrating poise and composure in her touches and distribution skills. She has played some very important minutes at center midfield; regardless of her nerves, her performance as well as her volunteerism has made the varsity team better this year! Coaches Lee-Ann Lovelace and Kate Wymard appreciate her enthusiasm this season.

October 21, 2013 Savannah L.

Varsity field hockey co-captain Savannah L. is the Wildcat of the Week for the week of October 21st. A junior from Massachusetts, Savvy played an outstanding game at center back on Saturday, October 19th against Miss Porter's. She shut down several fast breaks and was key in generating attacking opportunities. Her hits out of the backfield were unstoppable and created countless scoring opportunities for her teammates. Savannah has been a consistently positive leader on and off the field this fall in her role as captain, and her presence in the backfield will continue to be an asset to the team.

October 14, 2013 Claire D.

Sophomore Claire D. is the Wildcat of the Week for the week of October 14th because of her endless contributions to the 2013 Junior Varsity Volleyball team. In recent games against Chase, Canterbury, and Hamden Hall, Claire was credited with several serving aces. Most recently, in the Hamden Hall match on Saturday, she was credited with five aces in the first set and seven in the second. On Wednesday against Canterbury, she tallied 11 service points, four of which were aces. She recorded three aces at Chase on Monday for the 2-0 shutout. In addition to her consistent serving, she has also helped to set up several successful plays with her accurate passing. The JV Head Coach, Robin Griffin, describes her as “dominating our games." The team currently holds a 7-3 record including a 5-game winning streak.

October 7, 2013 Kaziah R.

Kaziah R. has been selected as the Wildcat of the Week for the week of October 7th because of her major contributions to the 2013 Varsity Volleyball team. Her dedication during practices has enabled her to better her skills, especially at the net. Kazie has been one of the strongest net players for the Wildcats this year with several blocks and kills. She never shies away from attempting to block players several inches taller than her. When she stuffs an opponent, the energy level of the entire team rises, which was especially noticeable during our matches against Miss Halls and Wilbraham and Monson this season. Kazie contributed over half of our service points during the third game of Saturday's Watkinson's match to earn the Wildcats a victory. Kazie has proven to be a leader on the court with her high energy and continued support of her teammates. She is able to bring a competitive edge to the team and we are excited to see how she will continue to grow as the season progresses.

September 30, 2013 Briana J.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of September 30, 2013 is Briana J. from the J.V. Soccer team. Although Briana is relatively new to soccer and not the most experienced player on her team this year, she has demonstrated outstanding tenacity and a competitive spirit that has re-ignited the offense of the team to a level not seen in many years. Briana's speed and determination has helped her have many breakaways in our last two matches and she has managed to score four out of the team's ten goals, making her the team's current high scorer. As her skills and confidence improve, we expect Brianna to have an outstanding year in soccer.

September 23, 2013 Claudia B.

Claudia B., a junior but new member of the Cross Country team, is the Wildcat of the Week for September 23, 2013. In only her second race, Claudia braved the fast pack at the Canterbury Invitational and fought hard for an unbelievable 3-minute time drop from only a week before. Though her body was clearly struggling to complete the race, Claudia dug deep for a strong sprint at the finish, passing two competitors just before the line. As the score was tallied, Westover was tied with rival Chase for 2nd place and it was Claudia's impressive performance as the 6th runner on the team that won the tie breaker and earned the Wildcats a 2nd place finish of 13 teams.

September 16, 2013 Haley D.

The Wildcat of the Week for the week of September 16, 2013 comes from the Varsity Soccer Team. Senior Haley D. Haley has played an important role for the Wildcats for the past three seasons. This year, Haley helped the team to a shutout in their first game of the season against Watkinson on Monday, September 16. Of the eight goals scored, Haley was credited for five of them. Head Coach, Lee-Ann Lovelace, explains that "she has really stepped up to the plate as a true leader both in her example on the field as well as her encouragement and team spirit off the field." Lovelace believes that Haley will continue to be an inspirational player to her peers and play to her potential for the Wildcats. At midfield and forward, Haley will contribute many more goals in the two upcoming games and throughout the rest of the season.

April 29, 2013 Danny S.

Danny S. has been selected as the Wildcat of the Week. Despite a team loss against Ethel Walker and Choate, Danny played outstanding in the number one spot, winning both of her matches. Having already dropped an earlier loss this season to the same Choate opponent, Danny took the win in their second meeting, beating her opponent 1 up. Danny shot a very strong match, shooting 44 over the nine holes played. Her hard work and determination have set an example for the rest of her teammates this spring. Congratulations to Danny!

April 22, 2013 Stuart L.

Westover's Wildcat of the Week is Junior Stuart L. who has been a consistent leader Westover's Varsity Tennis team as a co-captain this season. She demonstrates on a consistent basis what it takes to be a competitive athlete. Her drive and determination in matches pushes her to reach new limits. Stuart is an excellent role model for her teammates, a great help to her coaches, and shows a true dedication to improving and mastering her tennis skills. Congratulations to Stuart!

April 15, 2013 Grace S.

A new addition to the Varsity Lacrosse team and to Westover's Athletic program, freshman Grace S.'s contributions on the field have not gone unnoticed. The past couple of games have been difficult for the lacrosse team, but Grace's effort and strong defensive presence have not waivered. Saturday's game against the Gunnery proved to be challenging. Trailing at halftime, Grace stepped up on the circle at the start of the second half with a draw control that she was able to convert into the first goal of the game for the Wildcats. Grace's positive attitude and impressive work ethic are welcomed additions to this year's varsity team.

April 8, 2013 Emma McGovern

Varsity Softball player Emma McGovern has been selected as Wildcat of the Week. McGovern has played outstanding defense as the team's catcher. At Millbrook, she was able to keep her glove down to tag a runner out, while being run down. Emma has also been consistent at the plate with 4 hits in the first 2 games. She is a cornerstone of this years team, congratulations to Emma!

February 18, 2013 Ailsa S.

Senior swimmer Ailsa S. is this week's Wildcat of the Week. As a captain, Ailsa has been a great inspiration for the other girls on the team. She has worked incredibly hard during the most difficult of practices and never shies away from a challenge. Her hard work has paid off as she has consistently improved her times on the distance events that are her specialty. As an outstanding teammate, dedicated leader, and talented athlete, she will be sorely missed next year.

February 11, 2013 Claudia B.

Sophomore Claudia B. has put together a very impressive record this season in JV Squash. Currently, she is 9-0 on the season including wins in 3, 5 - game matches. She has shown marked improvement throughout the season moving from 7th on the ladder to number 3. Claudia is a true competitor who never gives up on court and a true inspiration for her teammates.

JV basketball's Regina O. has been selected for player of the week. In leading the Wildcats to their fifth victory in eight games, Regina had a Westover season high 18 points, as she dominated the center position against Choate. Regina also had 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots to complete this superlative afternoon. A solid addition to this year's JV basketball team, congratulations to Regina!

January 28, 2013 Lindsay R.

A newcomer to this year's Varsity Squash team, sophomore Lindsay R. has shown a great deal of determination and drive. Lindsay often stays after practice and is always looking for ways to improve her game. Her focus and hard work was a major contributor in her success this Saturday in her first match as number 7. Her enthusiasm has been a positive addition to the varsity team this winter, congratulations Lindsay.

Though she has never swum competitively before, Deanna B. has been working incredibly hard at practice and has been improving quickly as a result. She took the initiative to move herself up a lane at practice and has been seeing consistent time drops at meets. Her positive attitude at even the most difficult practices is inspirational, and we are thrilled to have her as an addition to the team this year.

Junior Stuart L. has been selected as Wildcat of the Week. Her intensity on the squash court has brought her much success this season. Her powerful shots and desire to win have allowed her to gain control of the "T" and dominate the majority of her matches. She has a presence on and off of the court as she constantly works to improve the team's spirit and morale.

December 17, 2012 Marisa L.

Throughout the first few games of the Varsity Basketball season, co-captain Marisa Littman '14 has been a strong force on the court. Not only has Marisa led the team thus far in scoring, but she also has displayed standout effort of defense as well. Despite the team's losses early in this season, Marisa's positive attitude on the court has led her to fight through every minuet of every game. Her desire to continue to improve as a captain and basketball player has been an asset to the team this winter.

December 10, 2012 Britney D.

Britney D.
was named co-captain of the JV basketball team, as a reward for her hard work and leadership she exhibited last season and in the first couple weeks of the 2012-13 season. That was never more evident than during the JV's first game against Cheshire Academy. Britney scored 11 of her 15 points in the first half, and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead her team to a 44 -15 victory. This is only Britney's second year playing, and she is a great example of what hard work and practice can lead to.

November 26, 2012 Fall Season All-Stars

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes who participated in sports this fall! The Athletic Department would like to give special recognition to those of our athletes who were selected as League All-Stars. Senior Kate Scott and sophomore Grace Uhl from the varsity field hockey team, seniors Amber Shelton and Sierra Blazer from varsity volleyball, junior Hayley Delmolino and senior Jane Funk from varsity soccer, and from the varsity cross country team: senior Addis Fouche Channer and juniors Arianna Moniodes, Emily Potts, Hannah Hudson and Kira Hunter and sophomore Isabella Yu.

November 5, 2012 Jamie M.

As the only freshman to be selected to be part of the varsity volleyball team, Jamie M. has worked hard throughout the season to improve her skills and stepped up as a starter during the Ethel Walker game last Friday. After Saturday's match against Hamden Hall, Jamie's teammates recognized her contributions by selecting her to be the player of the game. Jamie has made important contributions on the court with her passing, serves, and net play. Her positive attitude and determination was an asset to the team this fall.

October 22, 2012 Parley H.

Parley H. has made significant contributions to the JV Soccer team consistently this season and her efforts have been even more impressive in the last few games. A newcomer to the squad this fall, Hannan has jumped in and played a key role. Her competitive attitude and her ability to motivate her teammates to maintain "maximum effort" throughout games and during practice have been vital reasons for the team's success. She has been a welcomed addition to the soccer program. Congratulations to Parley on her selection as Wildcat of the Week!

October 15, 2012 Marianna Mead

Westover hosted a talented squad from Millbrook this past Saturday and thanks to senior goalkeeper Marianna Mead, Millbrook walked away with three goals to Westover's one. Mead was peppered with shots and faced fifteen defensive corners, but her aggressive play shut down countless scoring opportunities. Her confident voice in the backfield helped her teammates to play smart defense and generate attack. Mead finished the game with 29 saves. Despite the loss, Mead's performance was outstanding--congratulations to Marianna on her selection as Wildcat of the Week!

October 1, 2012 Lauren Danielowski

Junior Lauren Danielowski has been named Wildcat of the Week for her contributions on the JV Volleyball team. In Saturday's match against Wilbraham and Monson, Danielowski tallied 19 serving points and 6 aces. Her determination and hard work lifted the JV team to victory after falling behind two games. Danielowski's positive attitude and consistent hard work are an integral part of this year's JV squad.

September 24, 2012 Katie Solley

Varsity Soccer goalie, Katie Solley, has been selected as Wildcat of the Week. In Friday's game against Canterbury Solley tallied 19 saves. Leading the defense to a shutout first half and allowing just one goal from Canterbury in the second half of play, Solley lifted her team to victory over a talented Canterbury squad. Solley's positive attitude and consistent energy is an asset to the team this fall. Congratulations to Solley!

September 17, 2012 Addis Fouche-Channer

In the first scrimmage meet of the season, the cross country team matched up with some very competitive squads, such as Choate, Miss Porter's, St. Mark's, and Phillips Exeter. Of the 82 girls in the veteran race, Addis Fouche-Channer led the Wildcat team by placing an astounding first place, surprising the crowd and setting her own personal record. She is currently 12 seconds from breaking 20 minutes, which is a significant milestone for cross country. Congratulations to Addis, what a great way to kick off the 2012 cross country season!

May 14, 2012 The JV Softball Team

The JV Softball team went undefeated this season with an 8-0 record. Each of JV Softball's fifteen members were key contributors towards an outstanding season. The Wildcats scored 157 runs in 8 games and limited their opponents at bat. May 7, 2012 Hana Mizuno

Congratulations to Senior Captain of the golf team Hana Mizuno on her selection as Wildcat of the Week! In nine matches, Mizuno has won 6, lost 2 and halved 1. Mizuno's consistency on the course and smart play has allowed for a very impressive season. Her attention to detail and lack of mistakes have been a threat to her opponents all season long. In addition to her skills on the course, Mizuno's quiet leadership has been an asset to the team this season.

April 30, 2012 Lizzy MacDougall

Sophomore Lizzy MacDougall, a two-year starter on the varsity lacrosse team, has been selected as Wildcat of the Week. Leading the team in draw controls, MacDougall has been a consistent force in the midfield this season for the Wildcats. Offensively, MacDougall has contributed her fair share of goals--in Friday's game against Masters School she notched six goals to lead the Wildcats to victory. In the defensive zone MacDougall's consistency and aggressive play has helped force turnovers and limit scoring opportunities for the opponent. A versatile player with a positive attitude makes MacDougall a very deserving recipient of Wildcat of the Week!

April 23, 2012 Jillian Verzino

Saturday's game against Miss Hall's proved to be a great day for pitcher Jillian Verzino from the varsity softball team. On the mound, Verzino struck out five and walked just three of the Hurricanes. Verzino was five for five at bat with one double and four singles. She scored four runs for the Wildcats and knocked in two runners leading Westover to 17-8 victory over Miss Hall's. Congratulations to Jill on her selection as Wildcat of the Week!

April 16, 2012 Emily Jackson

Emily Jackson, a senior on the varsity softball team, has had an excellent start to her final season as a Wildcat. Jackson has crushed homeruns in each of her first three games. In Wednesday's game against Kent, Jackson hit a walk-off grand slam to seal the win for her team. In the first few weeks of the season Jackson has proven to be a hard-working team member in games and practices. We wish her luck with her college softball career!

April 9, 2012 Stuart Lemay

Stuart Lemay, a sophomore on the varsity tennis team, has been selected as Wildcat of the Week. Lemay recently moved up to the number 2 singles spot on the varsity squad and made a statement in the team's match against Pomfret. Lemay worked hard in strong winds and cool temperatures to push her game into a third set where she was victorious over Pomfret's second seed. Just a few weeks into the spring season, Lemay has proven to be a great motivator and brings positive energy to each practice and match. Congratulations Stuart!

February 27, 2012 Jazmin Matos

Senior captain Jazmin Matos rounded out her Westover squash career this past weekend finishing in 6th place at the New England Division B Squash Championships. In her sophomore season she finished 3rd in the B Division and 11th last year in the A Division. A career record of 41-23 over a three year span and an unmatched level of sportsmanship made Matos an asset to the Westover squash program. Matos is heading to Franklin & Marshall next fall and we look forward to following her continued success!

February 20, 2012 Cristina Pretto

Senior Captain Cristina Pretto finished her Varsity Basketball career on a tear with outstanding performances in her last 3 games. She averaged over 10 points and 10 rebounds per game last week. Pretto was the team's emotional leader and kept everyone engaged and involved. Her fiery attitude and determination were an example to the team and will be missed next year. Congratulations to Pretto on her selection as Wildcat of the Week!

February 13, 2012 Giuliana Brignone

Sophomore Giuliana Brignone, a new member of the Varsity Swim Team, has been working hard all season to perfect her strokes and build her endurance. She had a particularly impressive week, dropping 16 seconds on her 200 Freestyle in the intrasquad meet and only 6 days later dropping another 12 seconds against Hamden Hall. She also recently qualified for the New England Championship meet in the 50 Freestyle. Giuliana's bright smile never falters, even during the most challenging of practices. She has become an integral part of the team and a great contributor to its success.

February 6, 2012 Varsity Squash Team

Congratulations to the Varsity Squash team! The squad had an impressive weekend at the 2012 U.S. High School Division III Team Squash Championships, placing 2nd out of 16 teams. The Wildcats beat Pingry School 7-0 in the first round, Episcopal High School 6-1 in the quarterfinals, Mercersburg 6-1 in the semifinals, and lost to Middlesex 2-5 in the finals. Each member of the team played hard--Jazmin Matos, Jocelyn McKenzie, Ashley Sanchez, Sarah Kruger, Bethany Simmonds, Alex Pape, and Stuart Lemay--and all of the girls certainly deserve the recognition as Wildcats of the Week.

January 30, 2012 Afua Nsiah

Freshman Afua Nsiah is a newcomer to the squash program and has improved tremendously over the last few months. Starting out on the Thirds team, she has worked her way up to the JV level. Playing at the number 10 spot against Choate, she won her match in five games. Playing against Hopkins at the number twelve spot, she beat her opponent easily in three games. This Saturday against Berkshire she jumped up to the number seven spot, winning her match in four games. Afua's commitment, dedication, and hard work have paid off on the court and she holds tremendous promise over her next three years.

January 23, 2012 Riley Boeth

This is Riley Boeth's first year playing basketball at Westover, but she is making the impact of a veteran on the JV basketball team. Playing center, Riley has been the leading scorer , averaging 10 points per game. She is also a tenacious rebounder, and leads the team in this category with 11 rebounds per game. In the JV's most recent game against Ethel Walker, Riley had 13 rebounds and 16 points to lead the Wildcats to an impressive 33-8 win.

January 16, 2012 Emily Johnston

New junior Emily Johnston continues her athletic contributions this winter. After earning a starting spot on Westover's Varsity Soccer team this fall, Emily has also proven to be a basketball powerhouse. Emily quickly earned a starting spot on the Wildcat's Varsity and has been a major contributor to Westover's recent win streak. In last weeks' games alone, she scored 37 points including 20 against Chase on Saturday and tallied 11 steals and 8 assists. She plays tenacious defense and is an effective rebounder (17). Emily is a natural leader whose comfortable and casual manner has been another asset to the team.

January 9, 2012 Chesley McCarty

Chesley McCarty has been a great addition to the Varsity Swim team this winter. Though she has had no prior competitive swimming experience, she learns quickly and works hard each day at practice to perfect her strokes. Even during the hardest of practices, Chesley pushes herself to improve and does so with a smile. At the second meet of the year she was already a scoring contributor on the Varsity team. Given her great strides so far, we expect drastic improvements over the rest of the season.

December 12, 2011 Stuart Lemay

Westover's Wildcat of the Week is a member of the JV Squash program and has had an impressive start to her 2011-2012 season. Sophomore Stuart Lemay has already made notable contributions to the squash program this winter; winning her first two matches against Loomis and Westminster. Adapting well to the number one spot on JV, her competition has been strong. Her ability to hit clean shots and her speed on the court holds great potential for the remainder of the season. Congratulations to Stuart and we look forward to watching her continued progress!

November 28, 2011 Fall Season All-Stars

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes who participated in sports this fall! The Athletic Department would like to give special recognition to those of our athletes who were selected as All-Stars. Varsity volleyball's Junior co-captain Sierra Blazer, varsity field hockey's senior co-captains Anna Eggert and Rose Bradley, varsity soccer's sophomore Haley Delmolino and senior tri-captain Cristina Pretto. In addition to our All-Stars there were also four All-New England cross country runners; Sarah Krueger, Parke Hunter, Addis Fouche-Channer, and Hannah Hudson. Best of luck to our seniors moving on to college!

November 7, 2011 Sierra Blazer

Varsity volleyball junior co-captain, Sierra Blazer, has had an outstanding season as a middle hitter for the Wildcats. She has earned the team several valuable service points during matches and leads the team with the most kills this season. Her passion for the volleyball is evident to all that see her practice or compete and she has been an outstanding team captain this fall. Blazer will be representing Westover during the All Star Game on Sunday.

October 31, 2011 Jane Funk

Junior Jane Funk has been selected as Westover's Wildcat of the Week. Funk's leadership on and off the field has been tremendous; she has a great work ethic and has been a key player on the field. She has led not only with strong communication but with skill and with a great tactical defensive sense and has also notched two goals this season. Funk's positive reinforcement of her teammates has provided a unifying force for her team this fall. Head Coach Lee-Ann Lovelace '98 says "defenders often go unnoticed, but Jane is not one of those!"

October 24, 2011 Rose Bradley

Varsity field hockey senior co-captain, Rose Bradley had another outstanding performance in cage. A deserving candidate for Wildcat of the Week, Bradley has been an anchor for the varsity field hockey's defense, averaging ten saves a game. Fall sports day was another impressive showing - with 12 saves in net, Bradley helped limit Miss Porter's scoring and keep Westover in the game. Her consistent force and confident voice in the defensive end has provided excellent leadership for her teammates and we look forward to watching her at the next level.

October 17, 2011 Nicolette Santoro

This week's Wildcat of the Week comes from the JV Volleyball team. Senior Nicolette Santoro played an amazing game versus Canterbury on 10/12, hitting the floor to dig some of their strong hits, leading the pack with the most nailed passes and the most unreturnable hits. Santoro also tied with two other players for the longest serving run in the game at six serves. Santoro is not a loud or obtrusive player, so she's an easy player to underestimate but one learns quickly never to do so when her actions speak louder than any words! Congrats Nicolette!

October 10, 2011 Addis Fouche-Channer

Since her spectacular performance at the New England meet last year, Addis Fouche-Channer has been working incredibly hard and improving quickly. She attended a running summer camp and came to school this fall ramped up and ready to go. She has since requested extra weight workouts to improve her speed and has led the strong Wildcat Cross Country team at each meet. She has helped secure their current record of 28-2 and earned herself two meet individual trophies. Her hard work and dedication to the sport is inspirational and we look forward to the rest of her breakout season.

October 3, 2011 Grace Uhl

This week's Wildcat of the Week comes from the JV Field Hockey team. Freshman Grace Uhl has played an important role in the midfield and on the defensive line for the Wildcats. Uhl helped the team to a shutout in their first game of the season against Hopkins. This Saturday, at Convent of the Sacred Heart, Uhl worked hard in the midfield to intercept several passes defensively, as well as executing a number of impressive offensive plays. Uhl brings an excellent attitude and great energy to practice during the week and her hard work and leadership is paying off in her game play.

September 26, 2011 Sophia Bourgeois

Freshman Sophia Bourgeois from Woodbury, CT has been selected as Wildcat of the Week. A member of the Varsity Soccer team, Bourgeois scored the game winner this weekend with a beautiful shot to the right corner, lifting her team to a 1-0 victory over Canterbury. Her hard work, her skills as a striker, and her excellent listening skills have been a great addition to the soccer program. Head Coach Lee-Ann Lovelace '98 describes Bourgeois as a "very dangerous player with a ton of potential!"
