Westover Parent Event with Author Rachel Simmons, January 8th

Westover is proud to welcome author Rachel Simmons to campus on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Faculty and staff read her book Enough As She Is: How to Help Girls Move Beyond Impossible Standards of Success to Live Healthy, Happy and Fulfilling Lives over the summer of 2018 to help us understand the pressures our students face in today's ever-changing world. We've found the insights in Rachel's book helpful as we assist our students with their lives at Westover and prepare them for the world beyond our campus.

We invite you to attend a presentation by Rachel Simmons on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 6:00 pm on Westover's campus. Rachel will cover many of the topics in the book Enough as She Is, however you do not need to have read the book in order to participate in this session. Please RSVP by using this form. Books will be available for purchase on the night of the presentation.

Please contact the Head of School's office with questions by calling 203.577.4501 or emailing Lauren Castagnola, director of communications, at lcastagnola@westoverschool.org. We look forward to seeing you on January 8!

From the Financial Aid Office

Greetings from the Westover School Financial Aid Office:

This is an important reminder that Schools and Student Services (SSS) opened in October for families planning to apply for financial aid in 2019-2020. The deadline for application submission is set for February 1, 2019. The SSS code for Westover School is 8152.

We understand the sacrifice and commitment made by families and guardians, in order to make an independent school education possible, and we want to assure you that we do everything possible to support your individual needs. Your commitment to completing the application process in a timely (or early) manner is appreciated. We are dedicated to partnering with you to provide awards when need is demonstrated in order to make an education at Westover School more affordable.

Please be aware there are new tax regulations, laws and schedules, based on the changes made by the federal government. It is important you understand them fully. For some direction, please refer to the resources provided on SSS or discuss these changes with your personal tax advisor.

If you need more detailed information on the application process you can visit our website. Of course, I am more than happy to meet with you in person or via email or phone at tcollierdickenman@westoverschool.org or at 203.577.4503.

We value you, as members of the Westover School community and look forward to working with you throughout the re-enrollment process.

Sincerely,

Treda C.Collier Dickenman
Director of Financial Aid/Admission Associate

From the Rasin Center for Global Justice: Spring Break Trip to the DR!

We are excited to announce a new opportunity in collaboration with Trinity-Pawling, an all-boys partner school in New York, for a service-learning trip to the Dominican Republic! After considerable research, T-P has decided on a location and organization with whom to partner and is sending a group of students and teachers through the nonprofit organization, Bridges to Community. Since 1993, this organization has been bringing volunteers "to impoverished communities to work, learn, and reflect." They focus on health, education, housing, and economic development in their service, done in partnership with local community leaders, to alleviate poverty. The experience will include active, hands-on work, in addition to cultural  exploration; an added benefit for those studying Spanish will be the language immersion.

Please see here for the detailed volunteer handbook and also here for the itinerary. The dates are: Monday, March 4 to Monday, March 11, 2019. The cost of the program is $2,500, which includes all meals, lodging, in-country transportation, activities, travel insurance, entry fees, and airfare. There may be limited financial aid available; please see Kate Taylor, director of the Rasin Center for further information (ktaylor@westoverschool.org). We need a minimum of five students and the maximum number of Westover participants is 10.

We hope you can join and make the most of this unique opportunity!

Students should complete this interest form and submit to the Rasin Center or mailbox 17 by Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
