Invest In Girls

Westover has partnered with IIG (Invest in Girls) which is a program of the Council for Economic Education with the goal of ushering in a new generation of financially literate students and increasing the number of women working in finance.

Through the IIG program, Westover students have the opportunity to learn from and engage with industry leaders in the fields of finance and investment.

Westover students who participate in Invest in Girls (IIG) gain the skills needed in the world of finance, and ultimately the confidence to become independent and influential women. The curriculum is a mix of classroom learning, field trips, and mentoring. IIG students regularly take field trips to visit financial institutions like the New York Stock Exchange, attend workshops with Westover alumnae, and participate in summer enrichment opportunities.

Curriculum Overview

Our core model delivers a blended approach to personal finance and careers in finance. Many of our students chose to pursue internships over their summer break in financial services as a result of participating in our program.

The IIG Model is an innovative approach.

•    Our three-pronged approach gives girls a holistic view on personal finance and the industry itself.

•    Our blended learning style gives girls access to real-time news and information that directly relates to the topics we cover.

•    Our workshops can be modified to accommodate any class size, duration, and content.  We are constantly evaluating what works in the classroom.

I have learned about finance and what good spending and saving looks like. The business and financial sectors have been a mystery to me. There are so many moving parts to a company that we do not see behind the scenes, and the scenes that we do see may not be all of what we think.” Cara Khalifeh ’20

Workshops

IIG works with 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students and teaches three concepts over the course of three years:

• Sophomores – Budgeting/Personal Finance

 Juniors – Investing your money

• Seniors – Business plan development, entrepreneurship and business skills
