Since this school year has begun, our student leaders have been hard at work. The Spirit Heads, Dorcas Heads, and Heads of School have been gracefully settling into their roles, all while balancing their busy schedules. They have truly exemplified what it means to be leaders and are setting the tone for an incredible year.
Since this school year has begun, our student leaders have been hard at work. The Spirit Heads, Dorcas Heads, and Heads of School have been gracefully settling into their roles, all while balancing their busy schedules. This year's Spirit Heads: First Head of Wests Charlotte W. ’27, Second Head of Wests Cassie F. ’27, Third Head of Wests Julie P-M. ’27, First Head of Overs Avery N. ’27, Second Head of Overs Enia C. ’27 and Third Head of Overs Rowena S. ’27, have had a very eventful and exciting start to the school year. After a whirlwind first week of school, the Spirit Heads have been reflecting on all things traditions. They have been processing how the beginning of the school year traditions went and discussing what went well, as well as what they want to work on for next time. All these traditions were incredibly spirited, and all the West and Over Heads' hard work, effort, and enthusiasm were very apparent in them. They are also very excited about beginning to work on their holiday card! The Spirit Heads are especially eager about working on the holiday cards. Avery shared that they want to "ensure that all students get a taste of how much we appreciate their contributions to traditions and what winter at Westover feels like."
Looking forward, the Spirit Heads are thrilled for Germans, which is coming up quickly. Planning for Germans is in progress, and while it may seem far away, this amazing tradition will be here before we know it!
Meanwhile, our Dorcas Heads are First Head Jess M. ’27, Second Head Olivia J. ’27, and Third Head Memphis R. ’27. These three leaders have been hard at work planning the beloved tradition of Dorcas with their junior class. Preparations are underway as the topsecret theme is being finalized. The Heads first Friday Dorcas meeting was held Friday night of Family and Friends Weekend. This junior class has really come together and shown true dedication to the tradition. Olivia shared, "It's been going so well, as the excitement and teamwork have been incredible to see!" This Dorcas Fair looks to be truly shaping up for great success. All are excited and looking forward to an unforgettable year of Dorcas!
Finally, this year's eight Heads of School: First Head of School Meghan B. ’26, Second Head of School Zuri K. ’26, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Head Gazal D. ’26, First Athletic Association Head Sophie H. ’26, Second Athletic Association Head Kamryn G. ’26, Art Head Andra W. ’26, Day Head Anna M. ’26, and Head Proctor Terese M. ’26, have begun their strides to make this year a great success. While they say that it can be stressful at times, "being a Head of School is a rewarding experience." Across the board, our Heads of School are looking forward to working with one another, building community and participating in all of Westover's traditions. Sitting on the Red Hall steps has been "so empowering and a showcase of our leadership to the community."
Our first and second Heads have been loving getting involved and planning events for the community. They are hard at work with Chelsea Brown, Director of Community Life and Culture, and Dr. Stines, Associate Head of School. DEIB Head Gazal has enjoyed working with Autumn Cloud-Ingram, Director of the Rasin Center for Global Justice, and has some exciting new projects on the horizon! Our AA Heads have reinstated the tradition of West and Over Trivia and are loving sharing highlights of games! The pair organized a successful Pink Out Bake Sale and T-shirt sale raising $2,628 to support Breast Cancer research. Andra has been working alongside Meghan Buchanan, Art Department Head and Director of Dance, to highlight the talented artists at Westover. She hopes to "get the community more involved in arts, from collaborative murals to workshops I hope to host in the near future." The dynamic Proctor duo, Anna and Terese, are excited about the return of daymates and working with Marcie and all of the other proctors this year. They have been working tirelessly on programming for our students, as well as planning off-campus activities with Student Activities Coordinator and Dorm Parent, Zoe Al-Tawiti ’20. From assembly announcements to planning events for all, the Heads of School are excited for the students to see what is in store for the future!
