Goldman Powers Westover School Past Masters School
Goldman hit two home runs and drove in seven as Westover School defeated Masters School 24-7 on Tuesday. Goldman homered in the second and first innings.
Westover School scored 17 runs in the second inning on the way to victory. Hurtgen singled, scoring two runs, Bird singled, scoring one run. Yi, Nembhard, Etchie and Mitchell all drew a walk, scoring four runs. Goldman hit a grand slam to center field, Anna A singled, scoring one run, Yi drew a walk, scoring one run, Mitchell doubled, scoring two runs, Goldman singled, scoring one run, and Hurtgen singled, scoring one run.
Masters School got on the board in the top of the first inning after Earnest doubled down the right field line, and Taylor walked, each scoring one run.
Westover School flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by Goldman that drove in two.
Masters School tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a ground out by Willauer, a walk by Maher, and a double by Taylor.
Westover School added one run in the third, making the score 24-7.
Bird stepped in the circle first for Westover School. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and seven runs over three innings, striking out two and walking 10. Atwood appeared in relief for Westover School.
Westover School accumulated 14 hits in the game. Hurtgen and Goldman were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Westover School while hitting back-to-back. Coggins, Mitchell, and Atwood each collected multiple hits for Westover School. Yi led Westover School with three walks.
