Cats log in a valiant effort against King. Cats came out with energy and determination and kept the game close early on. Down 12-11 to start the 2nd quarter, Westover couldn’t contain King’s 3 point specialists. The Vikings hit 4 three pointers in the quarter to take a 32-19 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Cats answered the bell. Aniella hit a quick 3 and really started to dominate the boards. This created great scoring opportunities. The shots were there, the energy was there, the hustle was there — sometimes the ball just doesn’t fall. That’s basketball.
The girls battled hard to the end against an extremely tough and talented King squad.
Aniella led the charge with another outstanding performance — 22 points, 12 rebounds, a steal, and 2 key blocks. Pure dominance on both ends of the floor. Every time we needed a bucket or a stop, Aniella stepped up and gave it to us.
Sophie was an absolute force on the boards, leading all players with a whopping 24 rebounds! On top of that, she netted 6 points and 6 assists, and a few eye opening assists.
Akemi knocked down a big three pointer to close the gap to 30-19 and had 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal — making plays that shifted momentum and kept us in the game.
Antonia grabbed 2 key rebounds, and gave the team a spark, fighting for every possession.
Terese, Georgia, Emma and Eva — all contributed to the Cats dominating the boards, out rebounding the Vikings by a wide margin.
Though we came up short on the scoreboard, this game was a statement. We can play with anyone. Against a strong program like King, we proved we belong.
